Senior Graphic Designer

Job Purpose

The role of the Senior Graphic Designer is to produce industry leading creative and coordinate the development and design of a wide range of graphic material, involving a variety of integrated steps and processes. The position requires extensive knowledge of specialised, multi-faceted design concepts and media. They will create original graphic design and comprehensive layout concepts and oversee and coordinate production of artwork and print.

In This Role, You Will

1. Conceptualise, plan and design, a wide range of specialised graphic, typesetting and/or illustrative material.
2. Have the ability to write and edit basic copy and headlines.
3. Work with Group Business Units to ascertain their needs and to develop graphic directions, concepts, and specifications for assigned projects.
4. Plan production schedules for the various steps in the design process; analyse basic project development costs, be able to participate in production and/or marketing planning group sessions and meetings.
5. Identify, select and coordinate vendors for printing and publication services, as appropriate to the project; may write and process requests for proposals for printing projects; identify and recommend contractors, such as printers, illustrators, photographers, and/or cartographers.
6. Oversee and coordinate the production process; develop and write printing and/or other production specifications, and select appropriate production media and materials, such as ink and paper; inspect proofs for accuracy and adherence to appropriate production standards.
7. Provide creative and technical advice and guidance and serve as liaison with production personnel, authors, publishers, clients, and/or printing representatives on design and technical graphic issues.
8. May coordinate a graphic or photographic library and/or maintain digital records.
9. The ability to supervise and/or train lower graded staff and trainee employees.
10. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

To be considered for this role, you must meet the below requirements:

1. Completed a Degree or Honours in Marketing, Media or Graphic Design.
2. 8+ years experience in working for an advertising agency/graphic design company or boutique design house.
3. Specialised qualifications in graphic design and print/production.

Knowledge/skills

1. Have proven experience in a wide range of graphic design projects including below-the-line, corporate identities, brochures, direct-mail, exhibitions, newsletters, promotional material, retail, digital graphics, outdoor media, design and print.
2. Show excellent knowledge and skill in typography.
3. Excellent spoken/written understanding of English and communication skills.
4. Demonstrate good personal management and problem-solving skills.
5. Ability to multi-task.
6. Show expert knowledge in the following software: InDesign / Photoshop / Illustrator.
7. Be proficient on a Mac and with the OSX operating system.
