Job summary

Westay is building a modern travel platform in the UAE and seeks a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer focused on backend. You will design and develop scalable backend services, APIs, and data-driven systems, while contributing to React/Next.js apps when needed.

You will work with Node.js, TypeScript, microservices, PostgreSQL, Redis, and cloud-native patterns on Azure or AWS. This role emphasizes collaboration, code quality, security, and adopting AI-assisted tooling to boost productivity.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, backend focus.
• Strong Node.js and TypeScript hands-on expertise, preferably NestJS.
• Experience with microservices, distributed systems, REST APIs, and event-driven architecture.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and Redis, including caching strategies and performance tuning.
• Ability to contribute to React/Next.js frontend when required.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices using Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS or similar frameworks.
• Design and maintain reliable REST APIs and integrations with external suppliers, payment platforms, content systems, and other third‑party services.
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL databases, including data modelling, indexing, query optimization, transactions, and performance.
• Implement effective caching and performance optimization using Redis.
• Build and maintain event‑driven and asynchronous processing using Azure Service Bus or similar messaging technologies.
• Contribute to React/Next.js web applications when required, including frontend development, API integration, and end‑to‑end troubleshooting.
• Actively use AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalent tools for coding, debugging, testing, refactoring, code review, documentation, and engineering productivity.
• Identify opportunities to use AI, LLMs, automation, or AI agents to improve engineering workflows or build product capabilities.
• Ensure AI‑generated code and solutions are properly reviewed, tested, secured, and validated before being incorporated into production systems.
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code and maintain appropriate unit, integration, and API/contract tests.
• Apply secure development practices covering authentication, authorization, API security, data protection, and common web vulnerabilities.
• Participate actively in architecture discussions, system design, code reviews, technical decision‑making, and mentoring.
• Work closely with frontend, QA, DevOps, and product teams on integration, CI/CD, production deployments, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

POSITION SUMMARY

At Westay, we are building a modern travel platform that enables customers to discover and book hotels and other premium travel experiences. We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer with strong backend expertise to join our engineering team. This is a backend-focused role, with primary responsibility for designing and developing scalable backend services, APIs, integrations, and data-driven systems, while also being capable of contributing to our React/Next.js web applications when required. The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on experience with Node.js, TypeScript, microservices, PostgreSQL, Redis, and cloud‑native development, along with practical experience using AI‑assisted development tools and workflows to improve engineering productivity and quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices using Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS or similar frameworks.
• Design and maintain reliable REST APIs and integrations with external suppliers, payment platforms, content systems, and other third‑party services.
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL databases, including data modelling, indexing, query optimization, transactions, and performance.
• Implement effective caching and performance optimization using Redis.

• Design reliable distributed systems considering scalability, idempotency, retries, failure handling, data consistency, and performance.

• Actively use AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalent tools for coding, debugging, testing, refactoring, code review, documentation, and engineering productivity.

Requirements

• Hands‑on experience with Redis and caching strategies.
• Good hands‑on experience with React and Next.js, with the ability to contribute to frontend development when required.
• Experience with messaging technologies such as Azure Service Bus, Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or equivalent.
• Experience with Git, Docker, CI/CD, and cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
• Practical experience using AI‑assisted development tools as part of day‑to‑day software engineering.
• Ability to demonstrate how AI has been used to improve areas such as coding, debugging, testing, code quality, documentation, or overall development productivity.
• Strong debugging, problem‑solving, communication, code‑review, and mentoring skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud‑native architectures.
• Experience with Elasticsearch or similar search/indexing technologies.
• Experience with external supplier integrations, payment integrations, or high‑volume transactional platforms.
• Experience in travel, hospitality or other integration‑heavy platforms.
• Experience building or integrating AI‑powered applications, LLM APIs, automation, RAG solutions, or AI agents is a strong advantage.
• Experience working in Agile, product‑driven, or startup environments.
