Overall Purpose of the Job

Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of assigned ships, working as part of the Ship Management Team, including senior ship staff, adhering to company procedures and best practices, with a focus on safety and environmental protection.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
  1. Plan and oversee maintenance, repairs, dry-docking, conversions, and modifications of vessels.
  2. Manage class and flag state survey and certification requirements, liaising with authorities.
  3. Develop work plans with ship's command, monitor progress, and report on vessel status.
  4. Ensure Planned Maintenance System (PMS) compliance, including documentation and performance monitoring.
  5. Coordinate vessel operating costs, control expenditures, and report variances.
  6. Monitor vessel performance metrics and implement remedial actions.
  7. Prepare vessel visitation plans and reports on vessel condition, repairs, crew performance, safety, and environmental issues.
  8. Serve as primary contact for vessels and liaise with clients on daily operations.
  9. Provide accurate management and expenditure reports to clients.
  10. Authorize vessel orders within financial limits and seek approval for unbudgeted expenses.
  11. Prepare vessels for inspections and audits, addressing deficiencies promptly.
  12. Participate in risk assessments and report incidents affecting vessel performance.
  13. Coordinate with insurance and claims departments as needed.
  14. Assist in the selection and briefing of senior officers before vessel deployment.
  15. Build professional relationships with ship staff, conduct performance appraisals, and support career development.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Recognized engineering or naval architecture qualification and/or relevant sea experience.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with people at all levels.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Previous experience as a Fleet Superintendent or senior engineering/naval architecture role in the maritime industry.
  • Membership of IMarEST, Engineering Council registration, or equivalent professional registration.
  • Basic financial understanding and experience managing budgets.
