Job summary

Redford Recruiters seeks a Senior EV Powertrain & Battery Systems Engineer to lead the electrical architecture and powertrain development for electric go-karts and prototype vehicles for a startup client in Al Ain, UAE.

The role covers selecting, designing and integrating the complete EV powertrain, including batteries, BMS, motors, controllers and HV safety. Independent delivery of EV projects from concept to testing is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in EV powertrain engineering.
• Experience with electric vehicles, go-karts, motorcycles, racing vehicles and utility vehicles.
• Independently delivered complete EV projects: motors, battery systems, BMS, controllers, HV systems, testing and supplier engagement.

Responsibilities

• EV Powertrain Design: design complete EV powertrain architecture and select traction motors based on performance.
• Battery Systems: LiFePO4 packs, sizing, configuration, C/SOC/SOH, thermal and BMS planning.
• Motor Selection: choose BLDC/PMSM/AC motors based on vehicle specs and conditions.
• Motor Controller Integration: select and integrate controllers, inverters, HV components.
• Electrical Design: create wiring diagrams, schematics, HV/LV architecture and cable sizing.
• Prototype Development: build and test prototype EVs and diagnose faults.
• Technical Procurement: evaluate suppliers and specify motors, batteries, controllers and cables.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced EV Powertrain Engineer to lead the electrical architecture and powertrain development of electric go-karts and prototype electric vehicles for a startup client based in Al Ain, UAE. This is not a wiring harness design role. The successful candidate will select, design and integrate the complete EV powertrain, including batteries, battery management systems, motors, motor controllers and electrical protection systems. The ideal candidate must have independently completed EV projects from concept through testing and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• EV Powertrain Design: Design complete EV powertrain architecture; select suitable traction motors based on vehicle performance; calculate required torque, power, RPM and gear ratios; design complete electrical power flow.
• Battery Systems: Hands-on experience with lithium-ion battery packs (LiFePO4), battery sizing, configuration, capacity calculations, cell selection, series/parallel configurations, enclosure design, placement, cooling, safety and BMS. Configure BMS with cell balancing, SOC/ SOH, thermal protection, over-current protection, high-voltage safety and diagnostics.
• Motor Selection: Independent selection of BLDC, PMSM, AC induction motors based on vehicle weight, top speed, torque requirement, acceleration, duty cycle and track conditions.
• Motor Controller Integration: Experience with motor controllers, inverters, DC-DC converters, contactors, HV junction boxes, pre-charge circuits.
• Electrical Design: Produce wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, power distribution diagrams, HV & LV architecture, fuse calculations, cable sizing, connector selection.
• Prototype Development: Build prototype EVs, commission complete systems, diagnose faults, perform testing and improve vehicle performance.
• Technical Procurement: Evaluate suppliers and recommend suitable motors, batteries, controllers, BMS, connectors and high-voltage cables.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in EV Powertrain Engineering.
• Experience with electric vehicles, go-karts, motorcycles, racing vehicles and utility vehicles.
• Software knowledge: AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, Siemens Capital, MATLAB/Simulink, Altium, CATIA NX, LTspice (preferred).
• Must have independently delivered complete EV projects: selected motors, designed battery systems, configured BMS, selected controllers/inverters, calculated battery capacity and range, worked with HV systems, performed prototype testing, and worked directly with suppliers.

Candidate Not Suitable

Do not shortlist candidates whose experience is primarily limited to wiring harness design, electrical drafting, automotive electrical maintenance, vehicle wiring technician, harness routing, harness manufacturing, or electrical CAD design only. These candidates may understand the electrical system but lack full EV powertrain design expertise.
