The jobholder is responsible for providing DCS expertise in Instrumentation & Control Engineering to ensure the proper operating conditions for all relevant equipment, supporting Borouge’s operations and systems in accordance with OEM guides, engineering standards, ADNOC, and international standards.
This role involves analyzing operational issues, suggesting design modifications, and configuring or implementing DCS system updates related to logic, graphics, hardware, and system interfaces to ensure safe plant operation. The role also includes maintaining DCS backups, monitoring system performance, implementing improvements, and managing obsolescence, budgeting for maintenance, upgrades, and migrations. Additionally, the engineer will design and implement improvements to ICS systems in existing plants and support major projects.
Key Accountabilities
Operation Support
- Analyze operational issues and investigate plant events with operation engineers.
- Identify and rectify issues in DCS logic, controls, sequences, graphics, and hardware.
- Monitor and troubleshoot system interfaces such as ESD, F&G, analyzers, IPCS, NMR, TIBCO, LIMS, Batch Tracking, SAP, and Historian to ensure smooth operations.
- Assist in root cause analysis during plant disturbances and design logic fixes to enhance reliability.
- Collect and organize alarm data to help measure Alarm KPIs.
- Provide 24/7 support to minimize downtime.
Maintenance Planning and System Improvements
- Diagnose faults in DCS stations, servers, controllers, and I/O modules.
- Upgrade and replace obsolete hardware and software with minimal operational disturbance.
- Perform system backups and restore operations during failures.
- Implement logic, graphic, hardware, and interface modifications to address automation issues swiftly.
- Reduce plant downtime caused by DCS issues.
- Keep DCS systems secure through regular updates and upgrades.
- Manage support contracts with OEMs for timely support.
- Coordinate routine maintenance activities and prepare procurement requests.
- Support troubleshooting and failure investigations to ensure prompt resolution.
Reliability Support
- Ensure DCS system security from external threats with timely updates.
- Review system logs and troubleshoot issues to maintain integrity.
- Act as the focal point for project implementation compliance and system reliability.
- Suggest system modifications and modernization initiatives.
- Plan for obsolescence and ensure operational and maintenance targets are met.
Project Coordination
- Assist engineers with technical issues and facilitate collaboration.
- Coordinate with external engineers and vendors for plant modifications.
- Participate in design workshops, validation, and testing.
- Review project documentation and ensure data sharing protocols are followed.
Process Control
- Support project modifications from a process control perspective.
- Assist operations with fixing ESD and DCS application issues.
- Use process control expertise for ongoing improvements.
- Analyze and implement solutions based on user requirements.
- Participate in hazard analysis for plant modifications.
Cyber Compliance and Modernization
- Implement and follow cyber security procedures.
- Ensure cyber checks are in place for system interfaces.
- Modernize OT/ICSS systems for security and compliance.
- Adopt new technologies like cloud, edge computing, and virtualization.
- Stay updated on industry trends such as AI/ML for data analysis and maintenance strategies.
- Guide operations on applying latest technologies securely.
- Develop emergency response plans for cyber breaches.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP.
- Fluent in English, both written and oral.
- 8-12 years of experience in Instrumentation & Control in large plants.
- Experience in oil & gas or petrochemical industries preferred.
- Hands-on experience with installation, repair, testing, and maintenance of relevant systems.
- Knowledge of system configuration, network administration, and logic development.
- Experience with Honeywell DCS troubleshooting and modifications.
- Skills in application logic development and troubleshooting.
- Advanced skills in SCADA network configuration (OPC, Modbus TCP/IP, RTU).
- Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
- Experience with SAP and document management systems.
- Professional certification (e.g., ISA, TUV) is advantageous.
