Job summary

Core42 is seeking a Senior Engineer - Data Platforms to lead the design, deployment and operation of a customer-facing cloud platform delivering managed data services. The role focuses on Kubernetes-based services for PostgreSQL, MySQL, Kafka, Redis and related components, with emphasis on high availability, security and automation.

• Strong hands-on experience deploying and supporting production databases, messaging systems or distributed caching platforms.
• Practical experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or similar NoSQL databases, Kafka, and Redis.
• Strong understanding of high availability, replication, backup and recovery, capacity planning and data durability.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Engineer - Data Platforms to lead the technical implementation, operation and continuous evolution of a customer-facing cloud platform delivering managed data services. The platform includes relational and non-relational databases, streaming and messaging services, distributed caching solutions, and the infrastructure required to provide secure, reliable and scalable cloud services.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Engineer and implement Kubernetes as a Service and managed data platform services for cloud customers.
• Design managed PostgreSQL, MySQL, Kafka, Redis and comparable services using Kubernetes Operators such as Crunchy Data, Percona and Strimzi.
• Manage the lifecycle of stateful services, including provisioning, replication, backup and restore, failover, scaling, upgrades and monitoring.
• Build automation using APIs, infrastructure as code, GitOps, CI/CD pipelines and scripting.
• Work hands-on with Kubernetes, OpenShift, OpenStack, Operators, controllers, CRDs, storage, networking and cloud platform services.
• Define SRE, observability, high-availability and disaster-recovery practices, including SLIs, SLOs, dashboards, alerting and operational readiness.
• Implement security controls covering access, secrets, TLS/mTLS, credential and certificate rotation, audit logging, encryption and vulnerability management.
• Support incident response, production troubleshooting and root-cause analysis while maintaining architecture documents, standards, runbooks and recovery procedures.

What We're Looking For

• Strong hands-on experience deploying and supporting production databases, messaging systems or distributed caching platforms.
• Practical experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or similar NoSQL databases, Kafka, and Redis or Valkey.
• Strong understanding of high availability, replication, backup and recovery, capacity planning and data durability.
• Production experience supporting and troubleshooting stateful systems under real workloads.
• Advanced experience with Kubernetes and OpenShift, including StatefulSets, storage, scheduling, networking, service discovery and failure recovery.
• Understanding of Kubernetes Operators, controllers, CRDs, reconciliation loops, admission webhooks and automation patterns.
• Experience with OpenStack compute, networking, storage, identity and virtualization dependencies.
• Strong automation skills using Terraform, Ansible, Helm, CI/CD pipelines and scripting, with experience implementing monitoring and alerting.
• Ability to review and troubleshoot Operators, controllers, automation tools, APIs and cloud platform components.
