Job description

Job Purpose

Provides technical expertise and advisory services to the Operations Function on corrosion monitoring, control, mitigation, and material performance related to down hole equipment, pipelines, and other production and export facilities in the fields and terminal.

Leads the development of long-term corrosion monitoring, control, and mitigation strategies and related programs. Oversees and participates in fitness-for-purpose evaluations of components suffering from corrosion or metallurgical deterioration.

Job Specific Accountabilities (Part 1)

  1. Develops and implements the company's policies and standards for corrosion monitoring, control, and mitigation to minimize corrosive effects on structures, facilities, and equipment. Provides expert advice on work programs related to cathodic protection, internal corrosion monitoring, materials selection/specification, failure analysis, data gathering, paint specifications, materials preservation, and other corrosion inspection programs.
  2. Develops, implements, and maintains the company's Corrosion and Inspection Management System (CIMS) and related procedures for corrosion monitoring, control, and material selection.
  3. Evaluates proposals related to plant/component fitness for purpose, including material performance assessments, recommending appropriate mitigation measures, highlighting concerns, and advising on improvements for protective systems.
  4. Reviews and advises on corrosion mitigation measures in design and material specifications for new or modified surface facilities. Participates in contractor selection by evaluating bids and recommending suitable contractors. Advises on corrosion monitoring devices and coating materials.
  5. Monitors corrosion activities through spot checks, log data examination, and reports. Ensures corrosion levels are within industry standards, recommends control or material changes as needed, and follows up to ensure implementation. Reports on activities and results.
  6. Audits ongoing corrosion control programs, investigates issues, and recommends cost-effective solutions. Coordinates special tests and investigations related to cathodic protection and pigging programs.
  7. Troubleshoots operational problems related to corrosion, performs failure investigations, and recommends corrective actions, including modifications to existing programs or materials.
  8. Liaises with other engineering units to establish and update standards, inspection philosophies, and contract frameworks for corrosion and materials engineering.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Metallurgy, or related engineering discipline.

Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills

8 years in corrosion control and mitigation in the oil/gas industry, including at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
