Job description

Job Purpose

Execute the design of baseline modifications and control and maintenance of the design basis. Implement effective configuration control of design output documents (specifications, calculations, drawings, test requirements, procedures) for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) in accordance with regulatory requirements, operating policies, nuclear standards for safety, industrial safety, and environmental protection to ensure the achievement of overall Design Change objectives.

Key Activities, Responsibilities & Accountability
  1. Design Engineering
  2. Develop permanent design modifications, including business cases and cost-benefit analyses, to improve plant reliability and safety.
  3. Lead small or emergent modification projects to enhance plant reliability and efficiency.
  4. Support management of functional locations and equipment master database for accurate plant records.
  5. Assist in configuration management to maintain plant in configuration control.
  6. Prepare or review design change packages and support the design change committee for prioritization and communication.
  7. Support unit start-up tests, including Power Ascension Test (PAT), to identify engineering issues.
  8. Verify engineering documents and data for accuracy and usefulness.
  9. Create and update plant equipment and process set point lists; support analyses as needed.
  10. Develop cost-effective design change packages to improve plant, system, or equipment performance.
  11. Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
  12. Identify and address issues through corrective actions and work management processes.
  13. Support WANO operational peer reviews to align with industry best practices.
  14. Identify potential cyber-security issues for evaluation by the Cyber-Security Action team.
  15. Conduct seismic qualification reviews and develop specifications to meet seismic program requirements.
  16. Assess FSAR change impacts to ensure design changes comply with safety requirements.
  17. Implement the Structural Monitoring Program for Civil Design (if applicable).
  18. Review and control software configuration management changes for BNPP operations.
Staff Training and Qualification
  • Provide feedback on training effectiveness and participate in training programs to develop necessary skills.
Outage and Emergency Response Organization (ERO) Support
  • Support outage and ERO activities to ensure safe and reliable operations, including shift and off-hours support if required.

The incumbent is expected to perform activities as per attachments 4 & 5 in the Job Description procedure related to Health, Safety, Environment, Security, Business Continuity, People Management, and Quality Management.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Engineering or related Science.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including 1 year in Nuclear Power Plant engineering.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with experience in APR-1400 or OPR-1000 maintenance and engineering.
