AtkinsRéalis are looking for a Masterplan Design Director, to work in our project management team in Abu Dhabi, UAE, reporting directly to the Projects Programme Director. The position plays a crucial role in shaping large-scale developments, ensuring strategic alignment between design, functionality, and business objectives. Your role will involve processing and managing the Masterplan Team on behalf of the client, ensuring that all masterplans align with the client's vision and regulatory standards. You will work within a PMC framework, coordinating with various stakeholders to deliver high-quality, sustainable, and innovative urban planning solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic planning by defining the overarching design vision for projects, ensuring alignment with business goals and regulatory requirements.
- Stakeholder coordination management by collaborating with architects, engineers, urban planners, authority representatives, adjacent landowners, clients, etc. to integrate diverse perspectives into the masterplan.
- Design oversight and design review management of the conceptualization and refinement of design frameworks, ensuring aesthetic, functional, and sustainable outcomes.
- Project integration management, working closely with designers ensuring design feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and timely execution.
- Regulatory compliance management relating to local and international laws and regulations, environmental regulations, and urban planning policies to ensure project approval.
- Innovation & Sustainability management for the implementation of cutting-edge design methodologies, including smart city concepts and sustainable development practices.
- Lead, mentor and foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Assign tasks, provide guidance, and ensure the team meets project deadlines and quality standards.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide professional development opportunities for team members.
- Manage, monitor and report on project progress, resolve technical issues, and ensure adherence to project timelines and budgets.
- Report weekly & monthly on key masterplan accomplishments and concerns, highlight risks that could impact the programme delivery.
- Periodic analysis of design review process, ensure that consultants are complying and report on any non-compliances.
- Provide technical input and creative direction for master planning projects.
- Review and approve design proposals, ensuring they meet the client's objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in urban planning and design.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and consistency of design outputs.
- Conduct regular reviews of design work to maintain high standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure all deliverables are error-free and meet the highest quality standards.
Qualification & Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in urban planning, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a PMC / PMO / IDC role within a Project Management / Engineering consultancy.
- Minimum of 15-20 years of progressive experience in urban planning and design, with a focus on master planning.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in design software and tools (e.g., BIM, AutoCAD, GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, AI-driven design analytics).
- In-depth knowledge of local and international planning regulations and standards.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
