About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Customs Valuation Specialist to oversee customs valuation analysis, review import and export documentation, and support compliance with applicable customs regulations and international trade requirements. The successful candidate will assess declared transaction values, evaluate valuation methods, investigate discrepancies, and provide technical guidance on customs valuation matters. This fully remote role focuses on documentation review, valuation analysis, regulatory research, risk assessment, and virtual coordination with customs brokers, logistics teams, finance departments, and trade compliance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review customs valuation declarations to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable customs legislation.
  • Assess transaction values for imported goods, including the price paid or payable and relevant additions or deductions.
  • Evaluate the applicability of customs valuation methods in accordance with the World Trade Organization Customs Valuation Agreement and relevant local requirements.
  • Review commercial invoices, purchase orders, sales contracts, freight documents, insurance costs, royalty agreements, and other supporting records.
  • Analyze assists, commissions, packing costs, royalties, license fees, and other elements that may affect the customs value of imported goods.
  • Assess related-party transactions and determine whether relationships between buyers and sellers may affect declared customs values.
  • Identify valuation discrepancies, potential under-declaration, overvaluation, and other customs compliance risks.
  • Research customs valuation regulations, official guidance, tariff-related requirements, and relevant administrative decisions.
  • Provide technical advice on customs valuation treatment for complex transactions, including intercompany imports and special commercial arrangements.
  • Coordinate remotely with customs brokers, freight forwarders, procurement teams, finance departments, and international trade stakeholders.
  • Support customs audits, valuation inquiries, post-clearance reviews, and requests for additional documentation.
  • Prepare valuation assessments, supporting calculations, technical opinions, and compliance reports.
  • Maintain organized records of valuation decisions, supporting evidence, correspondence, and audit trails.
  • Develop and update customs valuation procedures, internal guidance, and documentation standards.
  • Recommend corrective actions and process improvements to reduce valuation errors and improve declaration accuracy.
  • Support the review of customs declarations and valuation data using trade management systems, enterprise resource planning platforms, and analytical tools.
  • Monitor changes in customs valuation requirements and communicate relevant updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and training to colleagues on valuation principles, documentation requirements, and customs compliance controls.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Customs Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Accounting, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Significant professional experience in customs valuation, international trade compliance, customs brokerage, or import/export operations.
  • Strong understanding of the WTO Customs Valuation Agreement and transaction-value principles.
  • Knowledge of alternative customs valuation methods and the circumstances in which they may apply.
  • Experience reviewing commercial invoices, contracts, freight costs, insurance charges, royalty payments, and related-party transactions.
  • Familiarity with customs declarations, import documentation, tariff classification, and country-specific customs procedures.
  • Understanding of customs valuation requirements applicable in the UAE and relevant international trading jurisdictions.
  • Experience supporting customs audits, post-clearance reviews, valuation disputes, or regulatory inquiries.
  • Ability to interpret complex commercial arrangements and assess their implications for customs valuation.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to reconcile declared values against supporting commercial and financial records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with customs management, trade compliance, or ERP systems.
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to prepare clear technical reports.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and coordinate effectively with geographically dispersed teams.
  • Relevant customs, international trade, or supply chain compliance certifications are an advantage.
What We Offer
  • A fully remote, work-from-home position within the UAE employment context.
  • Competitive compensation based on qualifications and relevant professional experience.
  • Opportunities to work on international trade compliance and complex customs valuation matters.
  • Professional development in customs regulations, valuation methodologies, and global trade practices.
