Job Purpose
The Senior Curator is responsible for the strategic narrative, collections proposal, and implementation of the department. The role holder will manage strategic goals, develop research activities and content that enhance the museum's reputation, and build collaborative partnerships with national and international museum committees. The role involves conceptualizing new exhibitions related to the department and collaborating across teams to improve offerings.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop medium and long-term proposals for strategies defined by the Director regarding exhibitions and displays, proposing potential acquisitions and research opportunities related to collections from the 5th to early 16th century.
- Manage and develop the department's budget, including administrative, legal, and financial actions.
- Review, advise, and refine project proposals and feasibility reports, supporting the provision of timeframes, funding parameters, and resource allocation.
- Monitor the department's progress, analyze visitor activity reports, and recommend actions to the Director.
- Support department activities in complex or unforeseen circumstances impacting daily operations or project implementation.
- Evaluate and ensure research and maintenance procedures align with internationally recognized standards.
- Support initiatives across the Museum, including collections development, acquisition strategies, and educational content planning.
- Maintain subject matter expertise in one of the fields related to the 5th to 16th centuries through continuous self-learning to enhance departmental knowledge and research capabilities.
- Enhance the Museum's international reputation through personal research, publications, conference contributions, and developing loan opportunities related to the department's collections.
- Ensure knowledge transfer to team members and provide on-the-job training.
- Create and develop content for mediation and education policies related to the department.
- Achieve operational excellence and KPIs, working towards sustainable financial models and process improvements.
- Act as a brand ambassador, considering customer perspectives and managing stakeholder relationships.
- Foster employee engagement and growth through collaboration, knowledge transfer, and development opportunities.

Requirements
- Standard administrative hours with occasional work on weekends and evenings as directed by the business.
Qualifications
- 10-15 years postgraduate experience
- Experience as a Curator and Head of Section in a museum
- Fluency in English and Arabic
- Experience teaching at the university level
- Experience delivering public engagement lectures and presentations internationally
Educational Qualifications
- PhD in History of Art, Museology, or Museum Studies
- 5-12 published articles in international reviews
