Job Purpose
The Senior Curator is responsible for the strategic narrative, collections proposal, and implementation of the department. The role holder manages strategic goals, develops research activities and content to enhance the museum's reputation, and fosters collaborative partnerships with national and international museum committees. The role also involves conceptualizing new exhibitions related to the department and working across teams to enhance offerings.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop medium- and long-term proposals for strategies defined by the Director regarding exhibitions and displays, proposing potential acquisitions and research opportunities related to collections from the 5th to early 16th century.
- Manage and develop the unit's budget, including administrative, legal, and financial actions for the department.
- Review, advise, and refine the department's project proposals and feasibility reports, supporting timeframes, funding parameters, and resource allocation.
- Monitor and analyze reports on visitor activities, providing advice and recommendations to the Department Director.
- Support departmental activities during complex or unforeseen circumstances impacting daily operations or project delivery.
- Ensure research implementation and maintenance procedures align with internationally recognized standards.
- Collaborate with other departments on collections development, acquisition strategies, and content planning, including mediation and education policies.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on one of the fields related to the 5th to 16th centuries, continuously updating knowledge through self-learning to enhance department offerings and research on artifacts.
- Enhance the museum's international reputation through personal research, publications, conference contributions, and developing opportunities for loans related to the collection.
- Ensure knowledge transfer to team members and provide on-the-job training opportunities.
- Create and develop content aligned with the mediation and education policies of the department.
- Achieve operational excellence by meeting KPIs, working towards a sustainable financial model, and improving internal processes.
- Act as a brand ambassador, considering customer perspectives in all projects and managing stakeholders effectively.
- Foster employee engagement and growth by creating learning opportunities, facilitating knowledge transfer, and developing staff within the museum.

Requirements
- Normal administrative hours required, with occasional work on weekends and evenings as directed by the business.
Qualifications
- 10-15 years of postgraduate experience
- Experience as a Curator and Head of Section in a museum
- Fluency in English and Arabic
- Experience teaching at the university level
- Experience delivering public engagement lectures and presentations at an international level
Educational Qualifications
- PhD in History of Art, Museology, or Museum Studies
- 5-12 published articles in international reviews
