The role: This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Cost Engineer to join our Iraq Operations Business. This role is full time residential based in Sharjah, UAE.

Key Objectives
  • The preparation and reporting of project cost budgets, and the tracking, management and reporting of project expenditure to enable robust control of projects throughout their lifecycle
  • Development of project budgets, tracking of actual and forecast costs, and generation of cost reports in accordance with contractual requirements and Wood policies
  • Supports in the management and development of the Cost team, the management of project budgets, actual and forecast costs, and the preparation and filing of project cost documentation
  • May act as the focal point for several project scopes
  • Identify areas of best practise and drive continuous improvement
  • Role may be standalone on a project or as part of a team as determined by project requirements
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
  • Review and maintain Project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS)
  • Liaise with other Project Controls disciplines to develop budgets and review client documents
  • Liaise with Planning to ensure accurate control and forecasting of budgets and assess change impact on schedules
  • Liaise with procurement, finance and time-capture functions to capture costs and ensure accurate allocation
  • Maintain awareness of project activities and their impact on budget, schedule and cost forecast
  • Manage the project approval process for cost codes and budget setup
  • Review and maintain project cost budgets using appropriate software
  • Monitor and control cost commitments and expenditures through all phases
  • Coordinate with project management and planning to ensure cost phasing accuracy
  • Provide copies of project cost performance reports as required
  • Update project cost forecasts and monitor manpower forecast impacts
  • Coordinate change orders/variations and assess cost and schedule impacts
  • Monitor milestones, contingency drawdown and overall cost performance
  • Attend client meetings and present project cost performance status as required
  • Lead internal cost performance meetings and project cost close-out processes
  • Participate in risk analysis sessions and Continuous Improvement reviews
  • Mentor Cost personnel and manage subordinates as required

Expected

  • B.S. or equivalent degree
  • Minimum of 10+ years relevant experience in major Brownfield oil & gas projects, including at least 3 years in similar position

Knowledge, skills, and experience

  • Incumbents will typically have a minimum 5 years relevant cost experience
  • Excellent knowledge of cost software and related principles, tools and techniques including budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow
  • Excellent knowledge of Project Execution Procedures for Cost Management including Change Management
  • Excellent understanding of WBS & CBS structures and project reporting capabilities
  • Advanced ability to develop project cost budgets and change estimates
  • Advanced ability to prepare cost reports
  • Strong understanding of change management and associated cost and schedule processes
  • Strong understanding of earned value application, cost and schedule variance analyses/trending
  • Excellent understanding of project management principles and techniques
  • Strong understanding of Cost Management, Change Control, Planning & Risk Analysis & Management
  • Prior experience in a Senior Cost role
