Job description

Job Purpose

Provide component engineering skills and knowledge in implementing component engineering program activities, including complex troubleshooting, engineering evaluations, operability determinations, Operational Decision-Making Issues (ODMIs), and temporary modifications. This involves planning, execution, and post-close-out phases of activities related to Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation and Controls for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP). The role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, operating policies, nuclear standards for safety, industrial safety, and environmental protection to achieve overall business performance objectives.

Key Activities, Responsibilities & Accountability

Activity:

Component Engineering (for Mechanical or Electrical/I&C components)

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Execute component engineering activities to enhance reliability, performance, reduce costs, and maintain compliance with plant design basis and regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical expertise during identification, investigation, and resolution of abnormal equipment conditions to ensure safe operations and preserve design margins.
  • Monitor and assess component performance using predictive maintenance technologies to improve reliability.
  • Participate in online work week meetings to provide input on maintenance requirements and priorities.
  • Support complex troubleshooting activities to facilitate successful resolution.
  • Assist in developing asset management strategies, initiate design changes, review failure analyses, and perform causal evaluations to improve operations.
  • Support in scheduling major equipment maintenance windows to aid outage management.
  • Manage preventative maintenance programs, optimizing based on conditions to utilize resources effectively and promote plant reliability.
  • Ensure components meet regulatory requirements and industry best practices to enhance reliability.
  • Respond to management inquiries and communicate effectively with stakeholders, audits, and reviews.
  • Prioritize work backlog for optimal resource utilization.
  • Maintain component health plans to drive improvements.
  • Implement equipment reliability initiatives and motivate behaviors that promote reliability.
  • Update equipment master database accurately, including review, registration, notification, and periodic checks.
  • Facilitate final investment decisions by preparing and reviewing significance determinations and obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Evaluate components during outages to identify issues.
  • Oversee maintenance activities performed by contractors to ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • Prepare for WANO peer reviews to ensure effective communication.
  • Contribute to procedure revisions for operational, maintenance, and engineering activities.
Engineering Rapid Response
  • Participate in troubleshooting requests to resolve complex system or component issues.
  • Perform engineering evaluations supporting operational and maintenance needs within short timeframes.
  • Support operability determinations and ODMIs for timely requirements fulfillment.
  • Develop temporary modifications to meet short-term needs.
Outage and Emergency Response Organization (ERO) Support
  • Support outage and emergency response activities to ensure safety and reliability, including shift and off-hours support as needed.
Staff Training and Qualification
  • Provide feedback on training effectiveness and evaluate operator performance to improve training programs.

The incumbent is expected to perform standard activities as per attachments 4 & 5 in the Job Description procedure, relating to Health, Safety and Environment, Security, Business Continuity, People Management, Excellence, and Quality Management.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma (or equivalent) in Engineering or related Science.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, including 1 year in nuclear power plant engineering.
  • Experience with APR-1400 or OPR-1000 maintenance and engineering is preferred.
