Senior Backend Engineer: APIs, Scale & Cloud

Job summary

Tanqeeb in the United Arab Emirates seeks a seasoned Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain server-side services and APIs powering our product platform. You will play a key role in ensuring performance, security, and scalability of core systems while collaborating with frontend, mobile, DevOps, and QA teams.

You will work on RESTful and GraphQL APIs, database design, and integration of third-party services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience in Node.js, Java, Python, or .NET.
• Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Experience with microservices architecture and API design principles.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Good understanding of security, caching, and performance optimization practices.
• Experience with message queues/event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS) is a plus.
• Working knowledge of version control (Git) and code review workflows.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs and backend services
• Write clean, efficient, well-tested, and maintainable code following best practices
• Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and indexing strategies for performance at scale
• Integrate third-party services, payment gateways, and internal microservices
• Implement caching, queuing, and asynchronous processing to improve system throughput
• Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and technical design/architecture discussions
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues in collaboration with DevOps and Support
• Implement and maintain automated tests (unit, integration) to safeguard code quality
• Ensure adherence to security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and data protection
• Document APIs, services, and system architecture for internal and cross-team reference
