Job summary

AECOM Middle East Ltd seeks a Sustainability Engineer to ensure environmental commitments move from design to procurement, construction and closing. You will coordinate with Abu Dhabi authorities, manage LEED/Estidama processes and deliver credible sustainability metrics.

The role requires practical experience in sustainability within major developments, strong documentation, and clear communication with clients and contractors. LEED/AP credentials are advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability or related discipline.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Estidama and LEED requirements, especially construction-stage compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Abu Dhabi Municipality and Environment Agency—Abu Dhabi on sustainability requirements.
  • Track authority actions and ensure environmental measures are implemented on site.
  • Support ESG reporting by collecting, validating and organizing sustainability data.
  • Develop initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint.
  • Prepare sustainability management plans, strategies and procurement requirements.
  • Translate Estidama and LEED commitments into construction-stage requirements.
  • Review material submittals and shop drawings for compliance with sustainability credits.
  • Represent environmental matters in weekly progress meetings with clients, consultants, contractors and authorities.
  • Prepare Estidama and LEED construction audit reports for reviewing bodies.
  • Maintain compliance trackers and submission statuses.
  • Produce weekly and monthly sustainability reports for clients and project management.
  • Coordinate with project disciplines and stakeholders for environmental compliance.
  • Monitor sustainable procurement and verify materials meet criteria.
  • Identify gaps and drive corrective actions before certification impact.
  • Maintain records of calculations, approvals, certificates and audits.
  • Assist teams in interpreting rating-system requirements during construction.
  • Contribute to environmental performance reviews and efficiency improvements.
  • Support close-out documentation for Estidama/LEED submissions.

Role Context

The Sustainability Engineer will help ensure that environmental commitments established during design are successfully carried through procurement, construction, auditing, and project completion. The position combines regulatory coordination, sustainability certification management, ESG support, carbon reduction planning, and continuous engagement with contractors and project stakeholders. Regular interaction with Abu Dhabi Municipality and the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi will be important for aligning project activities with local requirements. The engineer will also maintain Estidama and LEED compliance evidence, review construction submissions, monitor implementation, and provide clients with reliable sustainability performance information throughout project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate regularly with Abu Dhabi Municipality and the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi regarding sustainability and environmental requirements.
  • Track authority actions and ensure agreed environmental measures are implemented correctly on site.
  • Support ESG reporting by collecting, validating, and organizing relevant sustainability performance information.
  • Develop practical initiatives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and lowering the project 's overall carbon footprint.
  • Prepare sustainability management plans, implementation strategies, procurement requirements, and related project documentation.
  • Translate Estidama and LEED design commitments into construction-stage compliance requirements.
  • Review material submittals and shop drawings for consistency with applicable sustainability credits and project objectives.
  • Represent environmental and sustainability matters during weekly progress meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities.
  • Prepare Estidama and LEED construction audit reports for submission to relevant reviewing bodies.
  • Maintain compliance trackers covering sustainability credits, supporting evidence, outstanding actions, and submission status.
  • Produce weekly and monthly sustainability reports for clients and project management.
  • Coordinate with project disciplines, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to maintain contractual environmental compliance.
  • Monitor sustainable procurement requirements and verify that proposed materials satisfy approved project criteria.
  • Identify sustainability compliance gaps early and coordinate corrective actions before they affect certification outcomes.
  • Maintain organized records of calculations, approvals, certificates, audit evidence, material documentation, and authority correspondence.
  • Support teams in interpreting sustainability rating-system requirements and applying them correctly during construction.
  • Contribute to environmental performance reviews and recommend opportunities to improve resource efficiency and reduce project impacts.
  • Assist with close-out documentation required for final Estidama, LEED, or contractual sustainability submissions.
Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a Bachelor 's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a closely related discipline and demonstrate practical experience in sustainability engineering within construction or major development projects. Hands-on knowledge of Estidama and LEED requirements is essential, particularly construction-stage compliance, material submissions, audit evidence, certification tracking, and coordination with multidisciplinary project teams. Candidates should understand ESG reporting principles, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, carbon footprint management, sustainable procurement, and environmental performance planning. LEED AP, Estidama, or comparable sustainability credentials will provide a strong advantage. Experience coordinating directly with UAE authorities and managing sustainability requirements on construction projects will also be valuable. The successful professional will combine analytical ability with clear communication, disciplined documentation, and confidence working with clients, authorities, contractors, consultants, and technical disciplines.
