Senior Accountant

Job Purpose

To perform accounting functions, including recording and reporting financial transactions, overseeing budgetary control for assigned funds, and preparing financial reports and analyses to ensure accurate accounting records.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation, posting, balancing, and reconciliation of the General Ledger and subsidiary accounts.
• Ensure transactions are accurately posted to the correct General Ledger account and period.
• Audit and process payments for contracts and miscellaneous expenses.
• Verify the authenticity and adequacy of supporting documents for fund disbursements.
• Review and analyse expense and balance sheet schedules for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare special statistical reports as required by management.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of company policies and procedures, guiding others to comply.
• Support internal and external audits, ensuring the availability of required schedules and reports.
• Review general ledger transactions and investigate trial balance discrepancies for the Finance Manager’s review.
• Assist with budget activities, proper coding of expenditures, document preparation, and other accounting-related tasks.
• Ensure that direct reports complete their tasks effectively, on time, and to management’s satisfaction.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.

Key Relationships

• Internal: Ongoing interaction with the Accounting team, Finance Manager, Operations Manager, Department Managers, and Client Representatives.
• External: Interaction with auditors and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance (minimum). Professional accounting qualification preferred.
• Experience: At least 8 years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems, Excel, variance analysis, account reconciliation, and accounting principles.
