Job description

Manor Hall International School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to join our Inclusion Department. The SENCO will play a key role in supporting students with a range of learning needs and ensuring that every student has access to a high-quality education. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to develop individualized learning plans, provide targeted support, and ensure an inclusive learning environment in line with the U.S. curriculum.

The ideal candidate will have experience in special education, strong communication skills, and a deep commitment to promoting equity and access for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the school’s Inclusion Department, overseeing the provision of support for students with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop, implement, and review individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with SEN.
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers on differentiated instruction and classroom strategies for students with varying learning needs.
  • Monitor and assess the progress of students with SEN, adjusting support strategies as needed to ensure progress.
  • Work closely with parents, guardians, and external specialists to ensure holistic support for students, maintaining regular communication about student progress and development.
  • Promote an inclusive school culture that values diversity and ensures equal access to education for all students.
  • Provide training and professional development to staff on best practices in supporting students with SEN.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations related to special education, including any necessary documentation and reporting.
  • Maintain records of students’ progress, assessments, and IEPs, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to data protection regulations.
  • Work closely with leadership and staff to implement school-wide initiatives that support inclusion and diversity.
  • Coordinate support staff, including teaching assistants and learning support staff, to ensure effective implementation of SEN provisions.

Specific qualifications required for this role:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Inclusion, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate certificate in Special Education, SENCO training, or a related area (preferred).
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a SENCO or similar role, ideally within the U.S. curriculum in the UAE.
  • Teaching certification or license (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of ADEK's SEN policies, practices, and teaching strategies,
  • Experience in creating and managing Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support student success.
  • Passion for creating an inclusive educational environment and ensuring all students can achieve their full potential.
