Job summary

A multinational engineering company in Sharjah is seeking a Lead Secondary Design Engineer for substations. Job Description

As lead secondary design engineer - substations, the person shall be capable of creating, reviewing, and executing secondary engineering / electrical design activities for substation / power distribution projects. She/he will:

  1. Review BOQ
  2. Check vendor offers for protection relays, SAS, LVAC, and DC systems
  3. Generate Single Line Diagrams (SLD), protection and control SLDs, interlocking schemes, cable schedules
  4. Review schematics
  5. Propose SAS signal lists and detailed design drawings along with drafters
  6. Prepare calculations such as CT sizing, battery DG sizing, cable sizing, LV cable estimation, etc.
  7. Deliver outcomes on time as per project needs
Job Specification

Experience in high voltage substation secondary design for at least 7 years, covering voltage levels from 15kV up to 500kV, including both AIS and GIS. Holds a BTech or BSc equivalent degree in electrical and electronics engineering. Has worked in multinational projects and can manage a team of engineers and drafters. An MTech degree and site commissioning experience are assets. Working knowledge of power system studies is desired.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ensure timely completion of all deliverables
  2. Review CRP (control relay panels) and automation drawings developed by vendors
  3. Interact with site execution and cluster teams for clarifications regarding equipment design
  4. Coordinate with vendors for clarifications on technical specifications, compliance, and quality
  5. Work with primary design engineers to obtain client specifications and evaluation checklists
  6. Evaluate technical offers based on client specifications and submit for review
  7. Prepare design calculations for CT, VT, and battery sizing; develop DC & AC single line diagrams and submit for review
  8. Review bill of materials and compare with tender quantities

Pre-tender engineering activities include BOM estimation and offer reviews for secondary equipment.
