A leading company in maritime safety is seeking a qualified developer to enhance its Safety Management System for ammonia-fuelled tankers. This role will involve evaluating existing systems, drafting SMS revisions, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in risk assessment and safety regulations.
Job Description
Develop a Safety Management System (SMS) for an ammonia-fuelled fleet, including crew (shipboard) and shore-based office staff, for 3 newbuild ammonia Aframax tankers.
The role involves conducting a gap assessment of the existing SMS against the 12 sections of the ISM Code, identifying necessary updates in each section. Based on this assessment, draft parts of the revised SMS, while some elements will need to be developed by the client.
A primary focus will be on procedures for handling ammonia (NH3) and integrating hazards and risk mitigation measures from the Risk-Based Certification (RBC) process into the SMS for both routine and emergency operations.
The client is a member of the Maritime Technologies Forum, which has published two relevant documents: a generic SMS for alternative fuels and a specific SMS for NH3 fuel. These documents can be leveraged in the development process.
