Reports To: HSE Manager / Project Manager
Job Purpose
The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and monitoring health, safety, and environmental requirements on the airport engineering project. The role ensures that construction, installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning activities are carried out safely and in compliance with applicable laws, airport requirements, project procedures, and international safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily site inspections and identify unsafe acts, conditions, and potential hazards.
- Ensure compliance with the project HSE plan, risk assessments, method statements, and permit-to-work procedures.
- Monitor high-risk activities including working at height, lifting operations, excavation, hot work, electrical work, confined-space entry, and work near operational airport areas.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, inductions, and awareness training for workers and subcontractors.
- Review Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Safe Work Procedures.
- Ensure appropriate PPE is available and correctly used.
- Monitor barricading, signage, access/egress routes, housekeeping, and emergency arrangements.
- Inspect scaffolding, ladders, lifting equipment, tools, machinery, temporary electrical installations, and other safety-critical equipment.
- Coordinate with airport operations and other contractors to control interfaces and prevent disruption to airport activities.
- Monitor compliance with airside safety requirements, vehicle movement controls, FOD prevention, restricted-area access, and aircraft safety requirements where applicable.
- Report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and environmental issues.
- Assist with incident investigations and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain HSE inspection reports, permits, training records, incident records, and other required documentation.
- Participate in emergency drills and ensure workers understand emergency response procedures.
- Stop or escal ate unsafe work when there is an immediate risk to personnel, property, aircraft, or airport operations.
- Follow applicable local legislation, airport regulations, client requirements, and recognized HSE standards.
- Coordinate with the HSE Manager, construction team, subcontractors, consultants, and client representatives on safety matters.
