Job description


Business Unit Purpose:
Implement and improve Occupational Health and Safety and ISO 45001:2018 standards across the EKFC group.

Job Purpose:
The Safety Assistant will monitor and evaluate health and safety activities at EKFC premises to minimize accidents, under the guidance of the Safety Specialist, ensuring compliance with ISO 45001:2018 standards and applicable legislation. They will advise on safety practices and support safety initiatives.

Key Result Areas:

  1. Conduct random inspections and audits to identify hazards and risks, inform departments, and recommend corrective measures. Follow up to ensure implementation.
  2. Monitor assigned departments' OHS performance, set objectives, and collaborate with HODs, management, and staff to improve safety conditions.
  3. Check calibration and condition of portable electrical equipment used by the safety department.
  4. Assist the Safety Specialist in maintaining fire emergency equipment and supporting fire prevention systems.
  5. Inspect emergency exits, conduct fire drills, and ensure first aid kits are fully stocked.
  6. Inspect contractor work areas for safety breaches and report findings.
  7. Prepare shift safety reports and update on the status of health and safety issues.
  8. Report non-conformances and recommend preventative measures.
  9. Update safety notice boards and ensure safety posters are legible and in good condition.
  10. Assist in incident reporting and accident management.
  11. Support safety campaigns, internal communications, and safety training initiatives.
  12. Brief contractors on safety policies and conduct inspections of their work areas.
  13. Participate in Health and Safety Committee meetings and monitor the effectiveness of remedial actions.
  14. Conduct toolbox talks on safety topics based on incident reports.
  15. Apply ISO 45001:2018 standards and adhere to departmental procedures in line with EKFC policy.

Job Context:
Preferably experienced in catering, aviation, or manufacturing sectors. Role covers 24/7 operations, requiring shift flexibility.

Knowledge, Skills & Minimum Experience:

  • NEBOSH International/General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (mandatory).
  • Lead Auditor ISO 45001:2018 (preferred).
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety legislation, policy development, risk assessment, and workplace audits in large organizations.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
