Job Title: VFD Service & Preventative Maintenance Technician (Siemens S120)

Location:

Reports To: Maintenance Manager / Electrical Supervisor
Job Type: Full-time - 6 month contract

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented technician to perform service and preventative maintenance on Siemens S120 Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). This role involves diagnosing issues, performing routine inspections, maintaining optimal VFD performance, and ensuring minimal downtime in operations. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Siemens automation systems and a deep understanding of drive technologies.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular preventative maintenance on Siemens S120 VFD systems as per manufacturer and site-specific schedules.
  • Conduct inspections, testing, and analysis of drive parameters to identify wear, irregularities, or potential faults.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair drive-related faults including communication errors, power issues, and motor performance problems.
  • Update firmware, back up configurations, and ensure parameter settings are optimized for operational requirements.
  • Replace or repair defective components such as IGBTs, control boards, cooling fans, and capacitors.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of service activities, inspection results, and parts used.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to schedule downtime and communicate maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all work complies with company safety policies and relevant electrical codes/standards.
  • Provide technical support and training to plant staff on S120 operation and maintenance practices.
  • Stay up to date with Siemens S120 product updates and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience with Siemens S120 VFDs or comparable drive systems.
  • Certifications: Siemens VFD training or equivalent preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of drive commissioning, parameter tuning, and diagnostics.
    • Familiarity with Siemens STARTER and/or SINAMICS Drive software.
    • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, drive wiring diagrams, and PLC interfaces.
    • Competency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Good communication and documentation skills.
