Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Road Design & Planning
- Develop road design plans and specifications, including alignments, profiles, and cross-sections.
- Design vertical profiles in line with design speed for roads and bridges, ensuring minimum clearance requirements.
- Create signs and marking layout plans for roads and bridges.
- Develop junction grading plans in coordination with stormwater management.
- Conduct feasibility studies and site investigations.
- Traffic Management & Planning
- Prepare traffic management plans.
- Develop detour plans and traffic diversions.
- Design pavement sections in compliance with authority requirements, considering traffic volume and soil reports.
- Ensure designs comply with local and international standards.
- Traffic Analysis & Impact Studies
- Analyze traffic patterns and volumes to determine road capacity and design needs.
- Identify problem areas using traffic data analysis.
- Use traffic modeling software to simulate and predict future traffic flows.
- Conduct traffic impact studies for new developments.
- Traffic Control & Infrastructure
- Design traffic control systems, including traffic signals, signage, and pavement markings.
- Plan and design roadway improvements, such as intersection modifications and lane additions.
- Develop plans for pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.
- Design parking facilities.
- Oversee the implementation of traffic management plans.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of traffic control measures.
- Technical Expertise & Engineering Knowledge
- Strong understanding of highway design standards, specifications, and regulations.
- Knowledge of horizontal and vertical alignment design, pavement design, drainage systems, and traffic control.
- Evaluate soil conditions and drainage systems.
- Assess environmental impacts and develop mitigation strategies.
- Project Coordination & Site Management
- Conduct site inspections and assessments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify project needs and requirements.
- Coordinate with contractors and stakeholders to ensure project completion within budget and timeline.
- Perform cost estimating and budgeting for road projects.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- 6 - 8 years of experience in road design and construction.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other relevant engineering software.
- Familiarity with relevant design manuals and standards, such as those published by AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) and local and regional transportation authorities.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Familiarity with local and international road engineering regulations and guidelines.
- Experience with sustainable and environmentally-friendly construction practices.
- Leadership experience in managing engineering teams or projects.
- Proficiency in traffic modeling software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM).
- Understanding of traffic engineering principles and practices.
- Data analysis and interpretation skills.
- Strong understanding of road design software, such as AutoCAD and Microstation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and regulations.
