Key Responsibilities

A Testing and Commissioning Engineer for a rail project is responsible for ensuring that all railway systems and components function correctly and meet safety, performance, and regulatory requirements before being put into service.

Job Summary

The Testing and Commissioning Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and documenting all testing and commissioning activities for rail systems, including signaling, rolling stock, and more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and Coordination

Develop and review testing and commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules.

Coordinate with design, construction, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of railway systems.

Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements.

Liaise with stakeholders such as project managers, clients, regulatory bodies, and third-party inspectors.

Testing Execution

  • Perform system integration tests for railway subsystems, including signaling, traction power, telecommunications, and rolling stock.
  • Conduct static and dynamic testing of trains, tracks, and infrastructure.
  • Perform functionality, performance, and safety tests according to project requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered during testing.

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure all tests comply with safety and quality standards (e.g., EN, IEC, IEEE, or local rail standards).
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety evaluations before and during testing.
  • Support the safety certification and approval process for railway operations.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain detailed test records, reports, and logs.
  • Document non-conformities and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide final commissioning reports and handover documentation to the client.

Qualifications And Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, or Railway Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 10 - 15 years of experience in rail project testing and commissioning (metro, tram, high-speed, or freight rail, infrastructure).

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of railway systems (signaling, traction, telecom, rolling stock, and power supply).
  • Experience with system integration and interface testing.
  • Familiarity with railway safety standards and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, test equipment, and data analysis software.

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
  • Willingness to work on-site.

Additional Information

Location: Project-based (Fujairah, UAE).

Work Environment: Office, on-site field testing, rail depots, and trackside work.
