Job description

Description

Quantum & Spin Lab in the Chemistry Program within the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Post-doctoral Associate or Research Associate to join our team starting January 1, 2026. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to be part of a cutting-edge research environment focused on synthetic organic chemistry, fluorescent materials, and advanced NMR techniques.

Research Focus

Our laboratory is engaged in the design and synthesis of novel organic compounds exhibiting spin and light-emissive properties. These compounds are pivotal in Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) sensing, a technique that significantly enhances nuclear spin signals. Candidates will contribute to developing new classes of organic molecules tailored for DNP-NMR applications, leveraging NYUAD's state-of-the-art infrastructure for organic synthesis and molecular characterization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, synthesize, and characterize complex organic molecules relevant to DNP.
  • Employ advanced NMR/MRI methods for structural analysis and DNP-related studies.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within NYUAD and with international partners.
  • Contribute to scientific publications, grant proposals, and conference presentations.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students as part of the lab's training mission.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field, with a focus on organic synthesis and spectroscopic characterization.
  • At least three years of postdoctoral research experience, preferably in fluorescent organic molecules or multi-step organic synthesis.
  • Proficiency in NMR spectroscopy; experience with DNP NMR is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Ability to independently design and execute complex synthetic pathways.
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High scientific creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills.

Employment Terms

  • Competitive tax-free salary based on experience and qualifications.
  • Generous housing allowance.
  • Educational subsidies for dependent children.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage.
  • Access to NYUAD's extensive research and computational facilities.

Application Instructions

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Please submit a single PDF file containing:

  1. A cover letter detailing research interests, experience, and motivation.
  2. Curriculum Vitae with publications list.
  3. A one-page summary of past research and future interests.
  4. Academic transcripts.
  5. Two letters of recommendation.
