Center for Applied and Translational Genomics (CATG) is a state-of-the-art multi-omics research facility at MBRU.

Center for Applied and Translational Genomics (CATG) at MBRU is accepting applications for the position of Research Assistant.

Job Purpose

The Research Assistant will support research projects within the Center for Applied and Translational Genomics (CATG) through implementation of assigned laboratory work (wet lab and/or computational). The role includes conducting experimental and analytical procedures, managing laboratory operations, overseeing procurement and inventory, maintaining equipment, and preparing materials for research and teaching activities.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Experimental Work

  • Conduct research activities as assigned by the Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Design, plan, and execute experiments; implement research protocols; develop new ideas that advance the project’s objectives.
  • Stay updated with the latest research developments in relevant fields.
  • Collect, store, and analyze experimental/clinical data.
  • Disseminate results via publications, posters, and oral presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Contribute to grant writing and applications under the guidance of the PI.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams within MBRU and external academic/clinical partners.
  • Participate in seminars and collaborative meetings to exchange expertise and project updates.

Laboratory Management

  • Oversee procurement of lab supplies, reagents, and consumables.
  • Maintain inventory, equipment, and laboratory safety compliance according to MBRU and international standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections, report issues, and coordinate maintenance of equipment.

Self-Management

  • Set and monitor annual performance goals in consultation with the reporting manager.
  • Identify personal development needs and work towards skill enhancement.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through training, networking, and continued education.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant medical or life sciences discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience: Previous work in a genomics or molecular biology laboratory is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • DNA/RNA extraction and purification.
  • Library preparation for short-read and/or long-read genome sequencing.
  • Quality control techniques (agarose gel electrophoresis, fragment length analysis, PCR).
  • qPCR for gene expression quantification.
  • Single-cell library preparation (e.g., 10x Genomics platforms).
  • Handling multiple tissue types for genomic sequencing.
  • Western blotting and cell culture techniques.
