The role will lead horizontal and vertical alignment development, geometric design, corridor optimization, multidisciplinary interfaces, and constructability reviews while integrating civil, railway systems, operational, environmental, and infrastructure requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

What You 'll Be Doing
- Lead the planning, development, and technical review of railway alignments across all project stages.
- Develop and review horizontal and vertical railway alignment designs.
- Review geometric layouts, corridor strategies, and alignment requirements against railway operational needs.
- Optimize alignment solutions for safety, performance, constructability, operational efficiency, and whole-life asset considerations.
- Coordinate alignment interfaces with civil, structural, geotechnical, drainage, track, railway systems, stations, depots, environmental, and utility disciplines.
- Support integration between railway alignment design and wider corridor infrastructure.
- Provide technical direction on alignment constraints, interfaces, and design development.
- Review alignment solutions against applicable railway standards, client requirements, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.
- Provide technical leadership throughout design development and project delivery.
Railway Corridor and Geometric Design
The Alignment Lead will guide the development of horizontal and vertical geometry for the express railway corridor, ensuring alignment decisions account for engineering constraints, railway operations, infrastructure interfaces, and constructability. The position requires extensive experience in railway alignment optimization and corridor planning for passenger and freight rail systems. Design solutions will need to balance track geometry and operational requirements with structures, geotechnical conditions, drainage, utilities, stations, depots, environmental constraints, and other multidisciplinary considerations.
Systems and Interface Coordination
- Support Systems Engineering activities associated with railway alignment development.
- Contribute to requirements management and design traceability.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary interface requirements.
- Support verification and validation activities relevant to alignment design.
- Identify interfaces between alignment, track, civil infrastructure, systems, stations, and operational requirements.
- Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve design conflicts and maintain coordinated railway solutions.
Design Review and Technical Assurance
Review Design and Construct tender documentation and contractor submissions relating to railway alignment and corridor design. Assess proposed solutions against project requirements, applicable standards, technical constraints, and operational needs. The role will also support value engineering and constructability assessments while maintaining the technical integrity and performance requirements of the railway alignment.
Risk and Constructability
- Identify technical risks associated with railway alignment and corridor development.
- Evaluate operational and constructability risks arising from alignment decisions.
- Consider environmental constraints during alignment development and optimization.
- Support risk mitigation activities throughout project delivery.
- Participate in constructability reviews and multidisciplinary design assessments.
- Provide technical input into value engineering opportunities.
- Help resolve complex alignment and corridor interface issues as the design progresses.
What Required Skills You 'll Bring
- Relevant engineering degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Railway Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the AECO industry or a relevant field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in railway alignment design and delivery on major railway or transportation infrastructure projects.
- Extensive experience in railway alignment design and corridor planning.
- Strong geometric design experience involving passenger or freight railway systems.
- Strong understanding of railway design standards.
- Knowledge of horizontal and vertical alignment optimization.
- Strong understanding of track geometry and railway operational requirements.
- Knowledge of constructability considerations affecting railway corridor design.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary railway design interfaces on large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with international railway standards and industry practices.
- Proficiency with railway alignment design software such as OpenRail, Civil 3D, Bentley Rail Track, or equivalent.
