Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experiencedRail Systems Managerto lead and oversee the design review and integration of multiple rail systems for a Metro Rail project here in Dubai, UAE. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of systems engineering practices as applied to railways, along with design review and management experience. This role requires expertise in a wide range of rail systems, including Signaling, Power Distribution, Communications, Automatic Fare Collection (AFC), Platform Screen Doors (PSD), Rolling Stock, Cybersecurity, Maintenance Management Systems (MMS), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) etc. The individual will also supervise a large team of sub-system leads and ensure seamless coordination across all disciplines.
What You'll Be Doing
Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage the rail systems engineering team, including sub-system leads, providing direction, mentorship, and support.
- Coordinate closely with Interface & Integration Manager, System Assurance Manager and other multidisciplinary engineering teams, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Develop and implement engineering policies, procedures, and best practices for design review and integration.
Systems Engineering and Design Review:
- Oversee the design review process for rail systems, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Conduct requirements analysis, system design verification, and integration reviews for all rail sub-systems.
- Lead technical discussions for all issues related to the specified sub-systems
- Ensure that all designs meet safety, reliability, and performance standards.
- Provide technical oversight and recommendations to ensure alignment with project objectives.
Sub-System Oversight:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of sub-system leads across various disciplines, including:
- Signaling (with a focus on GoA4 Radio CBTC)
- Power Distribution
- Communications
- SCADA
- Automatic Fare Collection (AFC)
- Platform Screen Doors (PSD)
- Rolling Stock
- Cybersecurity
- Maintenance Management Systems (MMS)
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
- Ensure effective integration and interoperability of all rail systems.
Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with international standards, industry codes, and regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure adherence to engineering standards and project specifications.
- Address any non-compliance issues and implement corrective actions as necessary.
Project Management:
- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets for engineering activities.
- Monitor and report on project progress, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
- Identify and mitigate risks and issues related to rail systems design and integration.
What Required Skills You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 20 years of experience in rail systems engineering, with at least 5 years in a Systems Design Manager role leading large team of specialists.
- Must have worked on a large greenfield rail infrastructure project (>2B USD CAPEX). Ideally should have worked on a GoA4 (Driverless) CBTC Metro Rail.
- Strong knowledge of systems engineering practices as applied to railway systems.
- Extensive experience in the design review and management of railway systems projects.
- Detailed understanding of applicable codes, standards, and regulations in the railway industry.
- Proven ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams effectively.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification or equivalent.
- Experience with railway operations and maintenance.
- Familiarity with other signaling systems and railway technologies.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and their application in rail systems.
- Must have worked in a client facing role in a large consultancy.
- Experience of GCC projects is preferred.
