Job description

Job Purpose

Implement the plant Radiation Protection (RP) activities during operational readiness, start-up and normal operation of Barakah Nuclear Power Plants (BNPP), as per regulatory requirements, operating policies and principles, nuclear standards for nuclear safety, industrial safety, and environmental protection, to ensure overall business performance objectives are achieved.

Activity:
Plant Radiation Protection Activities
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Execute the process to manage and control Radioactive Contamination as well as Radiation Exposure to allow for safe operation of the plant.
•Provide input to the governance management of Radiation Protection area to drive performance improvement.
•Designate and operate temporary Radiologically Controlled Area (RCA) as needed to align with RP requirements.
•Monitor the operation of protection clothes washer and dryer in the RCA to ensure safe conditions.
•Monitor the decontamination of contaminated area and equipment to maintain clean facilities.
•Conduct periodic surveillance tests as well as radiation shield performance tests to ensure alignment with standards.
•Monitor the high radiation area, very high radiation area, contamination area, and airborne contamination area to minimize exposure dose for radiation workers.
•Monitor the transportation of radioactive materials to and from the RCA to minimize exposure dose for all workers.
•Provide radiation protection consumables and equipment, including the storage of portable radiation equipment to minimize exposure dose for radiation workers.
•Execute and support activities in the field to ensure Plant Radiation Protection Activities are carried out effectively and successfully; activities include:
 Commissioning testing of RP equipment and systems.
 Radiation Safety monitoring including Radiologically Controlled Area (RCA) operation from Fuel on Site activities.
 Walk-down of RP systems and areas.
 Documentation of RP activities.
 Actions for Deficiency Notification Report (DNRs) and Request for Information (RFIs) regarding RP issues.

Staff Training and Qualification
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Provide training feedback on program effectiveness with evaluation of operator performance to align with requirements.

Plant Support Activities
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Provide support for the BNPP As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) Committee to support performance improvement and minimize exposure in the long term.
•Provide support to Procurement function pertaining consumables, spare parts related to RP personnel protective equipment to ensure proper inventory management.
•Provide support in the preparation and conduction of World Association of Nuclear Operator (WANO) and Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) evaluations to ensure alignment with regulations.
