. Technical Knowledge of Joinery

  • Understanding joinery materials (timber types, laminates, veneers, MDF, plywood, etc.).
  • Knowledge of fixing methods (screws, adhesives, brackets, dowels, etc.).
  • Awareness of finishes (polish, lacquer, paint, varnish).
  • Familiarity with shop drawings, cutting lists, and fabrication details.

  • Reading and interpreting joinery drawings.
  • Measuring quantities accurately from drawings and specifications (doors, wardrobes, cabinets, skirting, counters, etc.).
  • Applying standard methods of measurement (like SMM or NRM).

. Estimating & Costing

  • Preparing Bills of Quantities (BoQ) for joinery works.
  • Pricing joinery items, including material, labour, and fixing costs.
  • Considering waste factors and allowances for finishes.
  • Knowledge of rate analysis (materials + labour + overheads + profit).

. Contract & Procurement

  • Understanding specifications and scope of works for joinery.
  • Preparing tender documents and evaluating subcontractor/supplier quotations.
  • Negotiating prices and terms with joinery subcontractors.
  • Awareness of contract conditions related to variations and claims.

. Site & Progress Monitoring

  • Checking joinery deliveries against approved materials.
  • Monitoring installation progress and comparing with project timelines.
  • Verifying subcontractor valuations and payment applications.
  • Recording site variations and preparing Variation Orders.

. Quality & Compliance

  • Checking joinery workmanship against specifications.
  • Ensuring compliance with fire-rated doors, moisture-resistant boards, and other standards.
  • Coordinating with consultants for inspections and approvals.
