Job summary

Axalta is seeking a Quality Control Technician to perform routine inspection, sampling, testing, and verification of in-process and finished powder coatings to meet approved specs and quality requirements.

The role supports production with timely testing, accurate reporting, handling non-conformances, and adherence to QC procedures, safety guidelines, and good laboratory practices across the UAE facility in Ras Al Khaimah.

Qualifications

• Experience in QC laboratory or manufacturing quality environment preferred.
• Powder coatings, paints, coatings experience highly desirable.
• Written and spoken English and local language.

Responsibilities

• In-Process Quality Control: Collect and test powder coating samples during production; verify critical quality parameters against specifications; communicate out-of-spec results; support production with adjustments and re-testing; monitor batch quality consistency.
• Finished Product Testing: Perform physical and application testing (color, gloss, film thickness, adhesion, etc.); conduct impact resistance and bend/flex tests; follow internal methods and customer specs.
• Color & Appearance Evaluation: Conduct color evaluation with spectrophotometers; assess gloss, texture, and appearance against standards; maintain master color references.
• Product Release & Non-Conformance: Verify results before batch release; report out-of-spec findings; assist investigations and re-testing of non-conforming batches.
• Laboratory Equipment & Calibration: Operate instruments per SOPs; maintain calibration status; report malfunctions; keep records.
• Documentation & Quality Systems: Record observations; complete QC reports; maintain traceability; ensure records are clear and complete.
• Health, Safety & Environment: Follow HSE requirements; use PPE; handle chemicals and waste safely.

Job description

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for performing routine inspection, sampling, testing, and verification of in-process materials, and finished powder coating products to ensure compliance with approved specifications and quality requirements.

The role supports production through timely testing, accurate reporting, effective identification of non-conforming products, and adherence to established QC procedures, safety requirements, and good laboratory practices.

• Admin/Legal Entity: Business Director, General Industrial MEART.

Key Responsibilities

In-Process Quality Control

• Collect and test powder coating samples during production according to the defined inspection and testing plan.
• Perform timely testing to support production release and minimize manufacturing delays.
• Verify critical quality parameters and compare results against product specifications.
• Communicate out-of-specification or abnormal results immediately to the QC Supervisor and Production team.
• Support production personnel with adjustments and re-testing according to approved procedures.
• Monitor quality consistency between production batches.

Finished Product Testing

• Perform routine physical and application testing of powder coatings, which may include:

  • Color and visual appearance
  • Gloss
  • Film thickness
  • Particle size distribution
  • Gel time
  • Specific gravity/density, where applicable
  • Powder flow and appearance
  • Application behavior
  • Surface finish and visual defects
  • Adhesion

• Impact resistance

• Bend/flexibility testing

• Other product-specific tests according to internal methods and customer specifications

Color & Appearance Evaluation

• Conduct visual and instrumental color evaluation against approved standards.
• Operate spectrophotometers/color measurement instruments as required.
• Evaluate color difference and appearance against established acceptance criteria.
• Assess gloss, texture, metallic appearance, surface finish, and other visual characteristics.
• Maintain and handle master color standards and reference panels appropriately.
• Report color deviations promptly and support production color correction activities as required.

Product Release & Non-Conformance Control

• Verify test results against approved specifications before recommending batch acceptance/release.
• Immediately report results outside specification limits.
• Support investigation and re-testing of non-conforming batches.
• Assist with additional testing of reworked or corrected batches.
• Ensure that only valid and authorized test results are used for product release decisions.

Laboratory Equipment & Calibration

• Operate laboratory instruments and test equipment according to approved operating procedures.
• Perform routine verification/checks of laboratory equipment before use.
• Ensure instruments are within their valid calibration status
• Report equipment malfunction, damage, or calibration issues immediately.
• Maintain equipment in clean and suitable working condition.
• Support scheduled calibration, verification, and preventive maintenance activities.
• Maintain equipment usage and verification records where required.

Documentation & Quality Systems

• Accurately record all observations, measurements, calculations, and test results.
• Complete QC reports, inspection records, test sheets, and electronic records as required.
• Follow approved SOPs, work instructions, specifications, test methods, and quality plans.
• Maintain traceability between samples, production batches, test panels, standards, and recorded results.
• Ensure records are clear, complete, legible, accurate, and completed at the time testing is performed.
• Maintain laboratory housekeeping and documentation standards.
• Support continuous improvement activities within the QC laboratory.

Health, Safety & Environment

• Follow all plant and laboratory HSE requirements.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while handling powders, chemicals, hot panels, laboratory equipment, and production samples.
• Follow safe practices for powder coating application and curing operations.
• Properly identify, store, handle, and dispose of laboratory chemicals, samples, and waste.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, spills, and equipment hazards.

Qualifications

Education

• Relevant technical/vocational qualifications will be considered based on experience.

Experience & Skills

• 1–3 years of experience in a QC laboratory or manufacturing quality environment preferred.
• Experience in powder coatings, paints, coatings is highly desirable.
• Functional Expertise – solid functional/business skills / background, able to provide guidance to drive programs/projects.
• Data analysis skills – to analyze trends, pareto defects, etc.
• Written and spoken English as well as local language.
