Job summary

Halian seeks a highly practical Mechanical Design Engineer to turn concepts into manufacturable products, from concept through prototyping to production.

You will work with research and engineering leadership to develop innovative mechanical products, create detailed drawings, and collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure fabrication success. This role emphasizes hands-on design, prototyping, and real-world production optimization.

Qualifications

• Strong practical experience in mechanical design and drafting.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks; ability to transition quickly to SolidWorks.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes incl. machining, moulding, and additive manufacturing.
• Experience designing components in metals and plastics.
• Familiarity with prototyping techniques, especially 3D printing.
• Basic FEA experience or hand calculations to support design decisions.
• Ability to work with external manufacturers, fabricators, and machine shops.
• Hands-on workshop experience with engineering tools and machine tools.

Responsibilities

• Translate sketches and specifications into robust mechanical designs.
• Collaborate with researchers and leaders to develop production-ready solutions.
• Create detailed drawings, models, and technical documentation.
• Develop manufacturable designs balancing performance, cost, and production.
• Work with manufacturing partners to ensure fabrication success.
• Support prototype development using 3D printing and other rapid methods.
• Assemble, test, and refine prototypes and systems as required.
• Contribute ideas and engineering improvements throughout development.
• Participate in design reviews focusing on manufacturability and production methods.
