Job summary

Wärtsilä in Dubai is seeking a Service Engineer for Propulsion Control Systems to install, commission, diagnose and maintain advanced propulsion control and monitoring systems on marine vessels.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of experience in marine automation, a degree in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation or Automation Engineering, and willingness to travel and work onboard or offshore. Strong fault-finding, PLC/HMI and fieldbus knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Electronics Instrumentation or Automation Engineering.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in marine automation/control systems, preferably propulsion or thruster controls.
• Strong understanding of drive motor starter panels and electrical circuits.
• Strong PLC, HMI and fieldbus knowledge (CAN bus, Modbus, Profibus).
• Knowledge in hydraulic systems and electro/hydraulic pitch control.
• Willingness to travel and work onboard vessels or offshore platforms.
• Preferred: familiarity with Wrtsil engine controls systems; strong fault-finding and communication skills; safety-conscious.

Responsibilities

• Installation and Commissioning (New or retrofit) of propulsion control systems.
• Troubleshooting and repairing propulsion control systems (pitch, load, thrust, DP integration).
• Perform onboard commissioning, retrofits and periodic maintenance.
• Analyze system logs, trends and alarms for performance tuning and fault diagnostics.
• Interface with clients, shipyards and OEM partners professionally.
• Generate technical reports and service documentation.

We are looking for a Service Engineer Propulsion Control Systems to handle installation commissioning diagnostics and maintenance of advanced propulsion control and monitoring systems used in marine vessels.

Location - Dubai

Experience required - 3 to 5 years

What will you be doing:

• Installation and Commissioning (New or retrofit) of Propulsion control system Tuning Troubleshooting and repairing of propulsion control systems (pitch load thrust joystick DP integration)

• Perform onboard commissioning retrofits and periodic maintenance

• Analyze system logs trends and alarms for performance tuning and fault diagnostics

• Interface with clients shipyards and OEM partners professionally

• Generate technical reports and service documentation

To be successful you will need the following:

• Degree in Electrical Electronics Instrumentation or Automation Engineering.

• 35 years of relevant experience in marine automation/control systems (preferably propulsion or thruster controls-(Controllable pitch propellers(CPP)Steerable Thrusters Retractable Thrusters Waterjetsetc..)

• Strong understanding of Various types of Drive motor Starter panels (Auto transformer Soft Starter VFDs etc.) and electrical circuits.

• Strong understanding of PLC HMI and fieldbus communication protocols (e.g. CAN bus Modbus Profibus)

• Knowledge in Hydraulic system.

• Hands-on experience with Electro/Hydraulic pitch control systems

• Willingness to travel and work onboard vessels or offshore platforms
  

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with Wrtsil Engine controls systems

• Excellent fault-finding and root cause analysis skills

• Strong written and verbal communication

• Self-motivated and safety-conscious
