Job description

Core Mission

The Project Manager is responsible for managing all projects related to the development of our logistics facilities (breakbulk, bulk), ensuring projects are completed and implemented within budget, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.

This role involves cost estimation, procurement, contract management, and financial reporting while collaborating with the business’ management, architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.

The Project Manager will play a crucial role in optimizing project outcomes and ensuring financial success, particularly in the challenging context of African construction projects.

The position requires a proven ability to articulate complex details in simple terms, ensuring clarity and effective communication across teams.

Main Responsibilities

  • Be the project lead and take ownership of the project execution.
  • Oversee project implementation from start to finish, ensuring smooth execution and timely delivery.
  • Manage multiple projects in different locations.
  • Assist in potential project vetting by providing detailed CAPEX forecasts for investment decisions.
  • Monitor and control costs throughout the project, identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Participate in pre-tender activities with clients, architects, and project managers, raising relevant pre-bid queries.
  • Collaborate with the design team to analyse architectural and service drawings.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and value engineering exercises to optimize project outcomes.
  • Provide regular progress reports to ensure transparency and accountability
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to address project challenges effectively.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to enhance project efficiency.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure project standards are maintained.
  • Lead post-construction evaluations to assess project outcomes and recommend improvements for future projects.
  • Facilitate training and development of project team members to build capabilities and drive performance.
  • Manage contractors effectively to ensure they meet project requirements, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Handle CAPEX (Capital Expenditure) planning and management to optimize project financial performance.

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, Construction Management, or a Project management.
  • 5+ years of experience in project management, quantity surveying or cost consulting—experience in logistics facility construction is preferred.
  • Proven experience working on construction projects in various SADC countries
  • Sound knowledge of construction industry practices, regulations, and standards.
  • Proficiency in cost estimation, cost management techniques, and relevant software tools.
  • Familiarity with contract administration and legal aspects of construction projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex details.
  • Willing to travel to Africa as required for project management and oversight.
  • Experience in CAPEX management and financial planning.
  • Strong background in project implementation and ability to drive projects from planning to completion.
