Job description

The opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Project Lead Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will coordinate project engineering activities, including the preparation and review of project engineering deliverables, monitoring contractual scope, initiating variations & change orders, engaging in technical discussions, liaising with stakeholders on technical matters, and monitoring engineering efforts for projects and tenders.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, substation projects, and tenders.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure scheduled project and tender progress.
  • Review equipment specifications and BOQ for supplier inquiries, evaluate technical offers, monitor and coordinate supplier deliverables, and resolve technical issues during FAT.
  • Follow engineering processes, change management, risk and opportunity management, and other relevant procedures during project execution and tendering.
  • Coordinate with customers and consultants for document approvals according to project schedules.
  • Collaborate with site teams on technical matters during installation, testing, and commissioning, including punch point closure.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Experience in design and engineering, managing utility substation projects in the Middle East (Transco, DEWA, FEWA NG, SEC, Kahramaa, EWA, MEW, etc.), preferably in a lead role, with exposure to GIS and AIS projects at 33kV / 132kV / 220kV / 400kV.
  • Deep domain expertise in primary or secondary engineering is essential. Knowledge of other domains is beneficial for effective monitoring and supervision.
  • Experience in primary engineering aspects such as layouts, earthing, cabling, lightning protection, sizing calculations, BOQ estimation, RFQ, supplier offer verification, FAT, and MV systems.
  • Experience in secondary engineering including protection, relay panels, LCCs, SCADA/RTU/SCMS, FMS/DFR, Telecom, control cabling, CT/VT sizing, BOQ estimation, RFQ, and FAT.
  • Experience in engineering auxiliaries of GIS & AIS substations, including LV AC boards, transformers, batteries, UPS, security systems, CCTV, access control, and EPABX, with related calculations and vendor verification.
  • Coordination experience with civil and MEP disciplines, including interface management and input provision for civil and MEP engineering.
  • Proven ability in preparing BOQ, deviation lists, clarifications, and technical proposals for tenders and customer inquiries.
  • Understanding of installation, testing, and commissioning processes, including support in testing protocol preparation and site activities.
  • Minimum 15 years of work experience, with at least 5 years in a lead role.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
