This position reports to

Automation Engineering Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will act as the technical lead for all engineering activities in assignments, ensuring efficient, cost-effective execution of engineering disciplines within the project. You will serve as a design authority for specific engineering disciplines and complete related assignments. Your expertise should include pre-fabricated substation engineering (e.g., E-Houses, Power Supply Skids, Mobile Substations) and electrical packages (LV, MV, Transformers, UPS, Distribution Boards, VSDs, relays). You will collaborate with customers and ABB teams to deliver excellent service and identify new business opportunities.

The work model is: #hybrid - reporting to the Automation Engineering Manager in Abu Dhabi. Key stakeholders include customers, contractors, suppliers, project managers, and ABB colleagues.

Main responsibilities include:

1. Collaborating on project installation, commissioning, and site activities to resolve issues while ensuring HSE and quality compliance.
2. Coaching project engineers and designers in translating conceptual designs into engineering documentation.
3. Leading and coordinating teams (less than 10 members) across engineering disciplines on low to medium complexity projects.
4. Applying design thinking and standards in modelling, simulation, and calculations.
5. Acting as a design authority, approving design deliverables, and executing assignments for pre-fabricated substations and electrical packages.
6. Engaging with customers, contractors, and suppliers to resolve technical issues and meet contractual obligations.
7. Performing field service tasks, identifying technical issues, and recommending operational improvements.
8. Supporting project managers with risk assessments, contract claims, and proposals.
9. Reviewing project documents for safety, quality, and contractual compliance.
10. Acting as the customer focal point, identifying new service opportunities, and supporting team development.

Qualifications for the role

• Extensive experience with electrical packages/systems in the Oil & Gas and Power & Water sectors.
• Minimum of 5 years in electrical engineering, including substation layout, single line diagrams, and electrical installations.
• Proficiency in ABB and/or other electrical control systems, including MV and LV switchgears, transformers, UPS, distribution boards, VSDs, relays.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Fluent in English; comfortable with contract negotiations and presentations.
• Experienced in preparing project schedules, resource plans, and progress reports.
• Knowledge of ADNOC/GCC standards and international standards.
• Hands-on experience with pre-fabricated substations (E-House/Skid) and site management (E-House Engineer).
• Experience with relays, ABB PCM600, and other IED engineering tools (Relay Engineer).
