Overview of the role: The project engineer works under the supervision of a project manager and the Operations Head. The role involves carrying out project activities as outlined and leading the implementation team in delivering site supervision for PLC and BMS projects/services, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and overseeing delivery through handover. The Project Engineer focuses on implementing a previously designed system at the customer location under the direction of the Project Manager and supervises the on-site project team as dictated by the project scope.
What you will do
- Perform basic and detailed implementation of a PLC/BMS project at the customer’s location.
- Control and supervise all PLC/Controls related operations and maintenance at Siemens Logistics Customer Service sites, ensuring system availability and KPI targets.
- Coordinate with the field team to maintain system readiness and reduce operational issues.
- Comply with QHSE standards of both the client and Siemens.
- Troubleshoot PLC/Controls issues across sites (logic, communication, hardware).
- Drive modifications of the system for high/low level electrical controls, including hardware and software (e.g., PLC, drives, HMIs).
- Suggest and implement PLC/Controls improvements.
- Prepare technical reports related to system improvements, incidents (RCA), and liaise with the client.
- Control and monitor material flow within the system SCADA.
- Ensure clear communication from the control room to field staff for fault finding.
- Analyze issues raised by operations and propose permanent solutions.
- Provide technical advice on system anomalies and identify training needs.
- Ensure proper handover on-site and in the control room between shifts.
- Adhere to health, safety, security, environment and quality standards.
- Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, planners, QS, consultants, authorities and other departments for timely execution.
- Review and manage project documentation throughout the lifecycle, including submittals, drawings, method statements, inspection docs and O&M manuals; maintain safe archives.
- Validate design plans, drawings, quantities and calculations for construction compatibility.
- Participate in design review meetings and workshops; coordinate change management.
- Guide designers/draftsmen on shop drawings, cable routing, installation and wiring drawings as needed.
- Act as technical adviser to installation and commissioning teams, subcontractors and operatives; resolve technical difficulties.
- Ensure implementation complies with drawings, specifications and quality standards; follow Corporate and Project Q&H&S management systems.
- Manage inventory and coordinate material delivery; maintain records of issued and remaining materials.
- Supervise testing and commissioning activities.
- Generate variations and new requirements at the project site and coordinate with sales/presales to submit proposals.
- Provide project reporting to line manager on site progress and issues.
- Assist in estimation, preparation and submission of project claims.
Required skills to be successful
Job-Specific Technical Skills:
- Hands-on experience in installation/construction activities in a construction environment.
- Hands-on experience in commissioning PLC/BMS systems.
- Technical training/certifications in leading PLC/BMS systems.
- Expert knowledge of PLC/BMS industry standards, practices, techniques, procedures, codes, and regulations.
- Knowledge of QS & QC processes.
- Knowledge of networks, installation, T&C and PLC/BMS system integration.
- Experience in basic network implementation, installation, configuration and troubleshooting.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Experience in construction management and project execution processes.
- Knowledge of local codes and international standards for design implementation.

What equips you for the role
Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years of automation experience, specializing in instrumentation, electromechanical, electrical, or electronic engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in project development and commissioning involving Allen-Bradley PLC & SCADA systems, Siemens PLCs (Simatic Manager/Step7, TIA), HMIs (WinCC Flexible), Drives (Siemens/Sew/Danfoss), and SCADA (WinCC).
- Good understanding of PLC/SCADA systems.
- Good commissioning and service knowledge in BMS (Johnson Controls – Facility Explorer).
- Strong PLC diagnostic and programming experience, including fault finding, electrical and electronic fault finding, and electromechanical installations.
- Experience in operations and maintenance of PLC/Controls is an advantage.
- Strong management, leadership and communication skills with stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment; knowledge of quality/safety procedures.
- Proficiency in MS Office; UAE driving license.
