Job summary

A global engineering firm is seeking a Project Controls Lead in Sharjah to oversee project progress and financial reporting in Brownfield oil & gas projects. The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of experience, including at least five years in a similar role. This is a full-time position requiring excellent organizational and client service skills, as well as proficiency in project management software.

Qualifications

Overview

JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is recruiting for a Project Controls Lead to join our team in Sharjah, UAE. This is a full-time office-based role with business trips.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the focal point with the client and any contractor Project Controllers as appropriate to ensure costs and progress are reported accurately, ensure alignment with the project reporting requirements, and ensure timely and accurate cost and progress reporting
  • Monitor overall project / assignment progress status, achievement and non-achievement of major milestones and analyse performance in relation to plan
  • Responsible for identification, monitoring and reporting against the project critical path providing early warning to the Project Manager of any potential slippages
  • Effectively manage the communications interfaces essential for the delivery of cost, planning, scheduling and risk deliverables and services
  • Report project status and KPI to management
  • Produce weekly and monthly project cost and planning status reports
  • Implement the project Work Breakdown Structure for specific scopes of work
  • Implement the cost and planning control structures in alignment with the project Work Breakdown Structure
  • Lead the project work approval process in terms of accurate cost code allocation and initial budget set-up and approvals
  • Timely control and forecasting of budgets and ensure that the impact of all change requests is properly assessed and included in the budget and schedules if applicable
  • Ensures Project Accountants and Billing Specialists receive support required from the team
  • Monitors, records and / or evaluates progress for subcontractors
  • Supports with quantifying subcontractor scopes of work for request for quotations
  • Production and overall maintenance of project S-Curves and Histograms
  • Creation of the projects fully resourced, logic linked Gantt Charts within preferred planning software to the agreed project and programme requirements
  • Monitor current and forecast future resource needs for the project and programme through analysis of workload at project level
  • Identify slippages, significant float erosion and lead the recovery process
  • Responsible for overall development and issuance of project change orders / variations in accordance with contract / assignment change notifications
  • Advocate and promote the project change management system ensuring process is adhered to
  • Attendance at client progress meetings when required
  • Facilitate the preparation of proposal schedules and CTR packs
  • Lead cost and schedule risk analysis workshops / sessions both internally and with clients
  • Ensure risk is managed and monitored at project level in line with local standards and processes
  • Ensure Project Controls processes and procedures are accurate, up to date and followed
  • Liaise with clients and ensure that projects are managed effectively to ensure delivery in a manner which meets quality, time, and budget specifications
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all cost, planning and risk deliverables prior to issue to internal or external customer
  • Ensure all project specific tools and systems are set up and functioning adequately
  • Delegate and manage the work of the subordinate Project Controls team as required
  • Support staff performance and competency reviews

Expected :

  • B.S. or equivalent degree
  • Minimum of 15+ years relevant experience in major Brownfield oil & gas projects, including at least five (5) years in similar position
  • Pre-FEED, FEED experience

Knowledge, skills, and experience :

  • Typically requires a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant industry experience, with at least six (6) years in project control positions.
  • Knowledge and Appreciation of the core principles of Contracts Management, Commercial Management and Project Management
  • Working knowledge and application of earned value and other monitoring techniques
  • Excellent client service focus
  • Exceptional organisational skills and able to multi-task
  • Working knowledge of risk management processes and techniques and experience in facilitating Risk workshops with project / assignment teams
  • Advanced Working Knowledge of relevant software tools such as Microsoft Project and Primavera
  • Pre-FEED, FEED experience
