Job summary

ALEC Fitout in the UAE seeks a Production Superintendent – Upholstery to oversee day-to-day upholstery operations, ensuring safe, efficient production of furniture and bespoke items to approved drawings, samples and quality standards within the production timeline.

You will coordinate manpower, materials and equipment, supervise the upholstery team, and work closely with joinery and project teams to deliver high-quality results on time across hospitality, residential, and commercial projects.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in upholstery production with 3+ years leading teams.
• Experience delivering bespoke hospitality/residential furniture.
• Ability to read drawings, specs, and samples.

Responsibilities

• Translate the production programme into daily and weekly work plans.
• Monitor progress across cutting, sewing, foam preparation, upholstery, and finishing.
• Coordinate with joinery and other production sections to ensure frames and components are available and resolve constraints.
• Review drawings, specifications and samples before production and support prototypes.
• Guide the team on upholstery techniques, fabric and leather handling, foam selection, stitching and finishing.
• Conduct in-process quality checks and ensure items meet workmanship and quality standards.
• Supervise the upholstery team, monitor output and attendance, adjust work allocation and provide coaching.
• Monitor fabric, leather, foam and consumable usage to minimise waste and rework.
• Ensure tools and machinery are used and maintained; report shortages or faults.
• Enforce safe working practices for cutting equipment, sewing machines, pneumatic tools, adhesives and material handling.
• Maintain records of output, manpower deployment, material usage, and report progress and risks to Production Manager.

About Your Team

You play a pivotal role within the production team, supervising upholstery labour and coordinating with joinery, technical, quality, procurement, and project teams to ensure efficient production and high-quality delivery.

Your Role

As a Production Superintendent – Upholstery, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the upholstery section, ensuring production is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with approved drawings, samples, quality standards, and agreed timelines.

Your responsibilities:

• Translating the production programme into daily and weekly work plans, allocating tasks based on priorities, skills, and available capacity
• Monitoring progress across cutting, sewing, foam preparation, upholstery, and finishing
• Coordinating with joinery and other production sections to ensure frames and components are available and resolving production constraints
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, and samples before production and supporting prototypes and mock-ups
• Guiding the team on upholstery techniques, fabric and leather handling, foam selection, stitching, and finishing
• Conducting in-process quality checks and ensuring completed items meet workmanship, dimensional, comfort, and consistency requirements
• Supervising the upholstery team, monitoring output and attendance, adjusting work allocation, and providing practical coaching
• Monitoring fabric, leather, foam, and consumable usage to minimise waste and rework
• Ensuring tools and machinery are correctly used and maintained and promptly reporting shortages or equipment faults
• Enforcing safe working practices for cutting equipment, sewing machines, pneumatic tools, adhesives, and material handling
• Maintaining records of output, manpower deployment, material usage, and rework, and reporting progress and risks to the Production Manager

What We’re Looking For

Experience:

12+ years of relevant upholstery production experience, including at least 3 years supervising teams, with experience producing bespoke, high-quality furniture for hospitality, residential, or commercial projects

Knowledge:

Fabric and leather upholstery, foam preparation, cutting, sewing, pattern alignment, finishing, production planning, work allocation, and quality control

Expertise:

Ability to read technical drawings, specifications and approved samples, strong material utilisation and practical problem-solving skills, and proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel for production tracking and reporting.

Top Skills

• Diploma, technical qualification or recognised trade training in upholstery, furniture manufacturing or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience
• Strong production planning, work allocation, and supervision skills
• Excellent communication and coordination skills
• Ability to coach team members and maintain safe workshop practices
• Strong quality control, material utilisation, cost awareness, and practical problem-solving abilities
