To develop, implement, and optimize machining processes for CNC milling operations, ensuring efficient production, dimensional accuracy, consistent product quality, and compliance with engineering specifications. The role involves process planning, CNC programming, tooling selection, machining strategy development, and continuous process improvement to achieve optimal productivity, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Manufacturing Process Planning
- Review engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, technical specifications, and customer requirements to establish appropriate manufacturing methods.
- Develop and optimize machining sequences, operation plans, and process routes for CNC-milled components.
- Determine suitable machine configurations, workholding methods, fixtures, machining allowances, and setup requirements.
- Establish cutting parameters, tooling requirements, operation sequences, and inspection criteria.
- Prepare and maintain process sheets, setup documentation, tooling lists, and standardized work instructions.
- Estimate machining cycle times and identify opportunities to improve production efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs.
- Evaluate component manufacturability and recommend process or design modifications where necessary.
- Coordinate with production, quality, design, and engineering teams to resolve technical and manufacturing issues.
B. CNC Programming and Optimization
- Develop, verify, simulate, and optimize CNC milling programs using appropriate CAD/CAM software.
- Generate efficient toolpaths based on engineering drawings, 3D models, component geometry, and machining requirements.
- Program 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC milling machines, as applicable to the production requirements.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, tool holders, machining strategies, cutting speeds, feed rates, and depths of cut.
- Validate CNC programs through simulation and verification to minimize the risk of tool collisions, machining errors, and machine damage.
- Optimize existing CNC programs to reduce cycle times, improve surface finish, extend tool life, and enhance machining accuracy.
- Prepare, document, and maintain CNC programs in accordance with established revision-control procedures.
- Provide technical support during machine setup, program prove-out, first-off production, and subsequent machining operations.
- Troubleshoot programming and machining issues and implement effective corrective actions.
