Job Description
Job Overview: The Principal Piping Designer directly impacts the effectiveness of their team and related teams. They exchange ideas and information relating to Piping Design effectively. The Principal Piping Designer may work autonomously within established Piping Design procedures and practices. They act as a lead, coordinating the work of others. The Principal Piping Designer proposes improvements to processes and methods within the Piping Design discipline. The candidate must have offshore experience in design of offshore platforms and have previously worked with ADNOC.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Perform design and engineering of process facilities within specified timelines, adhering to safety, quality, and maintenance standards, considering constructability, economics, and operation during Pre-FEED, FEED, or Detailed Design phases.
- Develop 3D models ensuring clash-free coordination with all disciplines.
- Approve drawings including plot plans as per project specifications, McDermott procedures, and process design practices.
- Complete assignments and facilitate the work activities of others.
- Set priorities, organize work and time to meet objectives, and forecast resource requirements as Lead Designer.
- As Lead Designer, lead the design team to complete tasks within schedule and budget, ensuring compliance with standards and procedures.
- Act as the project-based discipline contact in communications with project team, client, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Ensure inter-discipline aspects of design are addressed and coordinate all activities within own discipline and interfaces.
- Support Lead Piping Engineer in measuring progress and productivity.
- Coordinate reviews and ensure review comments are addressed.
- Be familiar with project scope, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements.
- Develop plant design and 3D modeling/drawings in accordance with work hours and schedule.
- Identify issues early and follow up with corrective actions.
- Raise change notifications promptly for scope changes.
- Assist in raising technical queries, piping estimates, and scope changes when acting as Lead Designer.
- Attend project meetings and coordinate remotely if required.
- Lead the project in a Multi Office Project Execution Environment (MOPEX).
- Supervise and support less experienced team members.
- Ensure work complies with McDermott, client, and statutory standards, especially health and safety policies.
- Support appraisals of designers.
- Exercise judgment to solve problems based on experience and practices.
- Exchange ideas and information effectively and communicate directly.
Reports to: Lead Piping Engineer, Lead Piping Designer
Functional: Supervising Department Manager
Liaise With: Lead Designers, Engineers, other discipline leads, Project Engineer, IM Group, Document Control, Client representatives.
Supervises: Piping Design team during detailing and production phases.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years with major contractor or consultant, with at least 10+ years in oil and gas performing Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design.
- High school diploma with a diploma in Mechanical Design or Drafting, or equivalent experience.
- Detailed knowledge of 3D CAD systems, including E3D or SP3D.
- Experience with at least 1-2 projects in E3D and/or S3D.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or AutoLisp.
- Familiarity with local regulatory environment and international/national standards.
- Ability to lead projects.
- Understanding of process equipment maintenance and operation.
- Programming, 3D modeling, macro, or menu skills are advantageous.
- Flexibility for business travel/assignments.
- Knowledge of QA systems and good communication skills.
