Wood is currently recruiting a Principal Civil & Structural Engineer to join its team in Abu Dhabi.

Due to the nature of the projects and client expectations, the position will be based full-time at our office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The successful candidate will lead a team of Onshore Civil & Structural Engineers and Designers for large-scale Oil and Gas Projects. The candidate should be flexible in assignments, eager to learn, and patient to face work pressure and changes.

Responsibilities

• Develop Civil & Structural designs from Concept to Detailed Design, ensuring sustainability and efficiency.
• Design and develop for Greenfield and Brownfield Oil and Gas Projects.
• Establish design basis, specifications, scope, and tender documents.
• Review plant layouts, roads, drainage, and other designs.
• Check calculations, general arrangements, detailed drawings, 3D models, and MTO.
• Guide and review designs for various structures, develop engineering calculations for:
• Structures like pipe racks, pipe bridges, sleepers
• Process structures and equipment supports
• Equipment foundations for heat exchangers, vessels, columns, tanks, etc.
• Dynamic load structures for compressors and pumps
• Buildings like control rooms, substations, admin blocks, site camps
• Blast-resistant structures
• Review topographical and geotechnical reports.
• Design UG services, architectural, modular, and prefabricated buildings.
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
• Evaluate technical bids from suppliers and contractors.
• Review vendor drawings for civil design input adequacy.
• Optimize designs within budget constraints without compromising quality and safety.
• Prepare and review technical reports, method statements, and bid evaluations.

Leadership Skills

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers.
• Identify and resolve technical issues, propose solutions, and document decisions.
• Allocate tasks, guide the team, and ensure effective project execution.
• Develop schedules, monitor timelines and budgets, and ensure quality.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and stakeholders for integrated design.
• Ensure deliverables meet standards and are accurate and complete.
• Demonstrate organizational, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• Motivate and manage the team to foster responsibility and ownership.

Stakeholder Management

• Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders for clear communication.
• Manage interface meetings to progress design scopes.

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Promote safety culture within the team and site.
• Participate in project reviews and workshops.

Qualifications

Expected:

• Master's Degree in Structural Engineering or related field.
• At least 20 years of experience in Oil & Gas project design from Concept to Detailed Design.
• Minimum 5 years as Lead Engineer on major Greenfield/Brownfield projects.
• Experience managing teams of 50+ engineers and designers.
• Proficiency with industry software like STAAD Pro, Mat 3D, Foundation 3D, PROKON, Navisworks, MS Office.
• Self-motivated, results-oriented, and adaptable to tight schedules.
• Effective communication skills in English.
• Knowledge of project planning, inter-discipline coordination, and construction practices.
