Job description

Primary Years Programme (PYP) Teacher - Dubai

Join an esteemed IB World School in Dubai boasting outstanding facilities and resources for the new academic year commencing in August.

The Primary Years Programme stands as the initial tier among the four IB programmes of education, offering a comprehensive curriculum framework encompassing essential elements. These elements, comprising knowledge, concepts, skills, learning dispositions, and action, aim to equip young students for success in their present and future lives. The school adheres to five crucial elements to craft a curriculum that is not only engaging and relevant but also challenging and meaningful for learners aged 3–12.

The five essential elements of the PYP are :

  • Dispositions : These are attributes aligned with the Learner Profile, fostering active, compassionate, and lifelong learners. The Learner Profile includes qualities such as Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-Takers, Balanced, and Reflective.
  • Concepts : These are powerful ideas transcending individual subject areas, providing relevance across the curriculum. Students explore and re-explore these overarching ideas to gain an in-depth, coherent understanding.
  • Skills : Emphasizing the necessity for lifelong learning, the program instills thinking skills, social skills, communication skills, self-management skills, and research skills.
  • Knowledge : The significant and relevant content spans six discrete subject areas, including Mathematics, Language (English & Arabic), Social Studies, Science, PSPE (Physical, Social and Personal Education), and the Arts. Integrated units of inquiry covering six ‘trans-disciplinary themes’ are incorporated yearly, fostering a holistic educational experience.
  • Action : The final essential element, action, represents the demonstration of deeper learning through responsible behavior. It signifies the integration of the other four essential elements into students' lives, showcasing their application of skills, knowledge, concepts, and attitudes.

The PYP curriculum framework underscores the central principle of ‘Agency’ throughout the three pillars : the learner, learning and teaching, and the learning community. The community, comprising students, parents, and teachers, is encouraged to exercise voice, choice, and ownership to influence learning and teaching. The PYP aims to cultivate students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being, emphasizing international-mindedness and strong personal values, while fostering independent learning skills and encouraging each student to take responsibility for their learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs dynamic lesson plans following the Teaching and Learning Policy, fostering an environment conducive to outstanding education.
  • Communicates clear learning objectives and success criteria, tailoring approaches for students with diverse needs (SEN, EAL, G&T) through personalised learning techniques.
  • Structures lessons to sustain pace, challenge, and engagement while leveraging assessment for effective learning.
  • Utilises performance data and key indicators to shape differentiated lessons, integrating technology for enriched learning experiences.

Qualifications required :

  • B.Ed or BA Hons + PGCE / teaching certificate.
