Job description

Due to our expansion, applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals who are passionate and forward thinking and who will thrive in the vibrant learning environment of Hartland. By being ambitious, not only for students but for yourself, you will help us build and maintain a successful programme of study in the Primary Department by sharing in the responsibility for teaching, learning, enrichment and pastoral care. The successful candidate will also be expected to make a contribution to our unique and strong enrichment programme which ensures that learning and opportunity are diverse for all.

The ideal Year 1 teacher will have a strong understanding of how to integrate continuous provision into the Year 1 curriculum. They will have expert working knowledge of how to support the transition of children from the Early Years to the National Curriculum, through purposeful play and exploration within a Year 1 setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and deliver high-quality, creative lessons aligned with the National Curriculum for England
  2. Create a stimulating classroom environment that promotes active learning
  3. Design and implement effective continuous provision areas that support both child-initiated and adult-led learning
  4. Plan for progression within continuous provision to develop independence and deeper learning
  5. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
  6. Monitor and assess student progress through both formal assessment and observations during continuous provision
  7. Communicate effectively with parents about student progress
  8. Contribute to the school's enrichment programme
  9. Collaborate with colleagues in planning meetings
  10. Participate in professional development opportunities
  11. Support whole-school events and activities
  12. Facilitate smooth transitions for students coming from EYFS and progressing into Year 2

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Hold a relevant degree and teaching qualification
  2. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  3. Experience Teaching in Year 1
  4. Have a minimum 3 years teaching experience teaching the English National Curriculum in the UK or in an international setting
  5. Experience in implementing continuous provision in Early Years or Key Stage 1
  6. Strong understanding of the transition from EYFS to Key Stage 1 and preparation for Year 2
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  8. Knowledge of current educational practices and assessment strategies
