A leading school in Dubai seeks a full-time Librarian to foster a love of reading among students and support library operations. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree and have at least 2 years of experience, preferably in a school setting. Responsibilities include assisting students with research, managing library resources, and ensuring student welfare in accordance with safeguarding policies.
Purpose
The full-time Librarian is supported by a part-time Library Assistant, volunteers and student helpers. The library is an essential part of learning and teaching at JESS, providing indispensable support for staff and pupils throughout the school day and beyond. Library staff support research skills and information literacy and encourage students to cultivate a love of reading for pleasure.
Library staff play an important role at JESS. Their core responsibilities include fostering and supporting JESS s Core Values, policies, and guidelines; contributing to academic provision of the highest standard of teaching and learning; meeting regularly with colleagues, adopting a culture of continuous collaboration and improvement; effectively using resources to support teaching and learning and demonstrating and applying knowledge and understanding on inclusive educational values, principles, and practices. He/She should always conduct themselves in an appropriate professional manner to support and foster the aims and Core Values of JESS.
Main Tasks and Duties

It is not a comprehensive list of all tasks that the Library Assistant will carry out. The postholder may be required to do other duties appropriate to the level of the role, as directed by the Librarian. The responsibilities outlined may be modified by the Librarian, upon mutual agreement, to reflect or anticipate changes in the role:
Supporting students:
• To inspire in students a love of reading, support reader development and nurture their love of learning
• To assist students and staff to make effective use of the library and all its resources
• To communicate effective methods of research to pupils and staff
• To be proactive in helping students with book selection and research when they are in the library.
• To develop an understanding of learning differences and the needs of individual students with additional educational needs.
• To ensure students access to the library through appropriate clarification, adaptation, and resources under the guidance of the Librarian.
• To work with individual or groups of students during library sessions.
• To apply current best practices and strategies for supporting student progress and wellbeing.
• To display proficiency in inclusive educational techniques and personalisation in the support of the curriculum.
• To give appropriate support during library sessions to any students with additional learning needs, either physical, behavioural, or educational, as guided by the Librarian.
• To ensure good management, sense of order and tidiness of the library so that students may develop a sense of responsibility and pride in their library.
• To carry out supervision with vigilance and high levels of care and support for students and overall safety.
• To facilitate student independence.
• To give timely feedback to Librarian as and when required.
• To assist manage the use of the Library s IT equipment, providing advice to students regarding its use.
• To assist in the oversight of student behaviour in the library by: Maintaining and supervising collaborative and independent study, and giving advice and assistance to individuals and groups on how to use library resources
Supporting the Librarian:
• To support individual and group library work.
• To perform routine tasks, for example, preparing library materials and setting up required library resources to assist in supporting teaching and learning.
• To collaborate with the Librarian.
• To record observations of students and communicate this to the Librarian.
• To utilise existing systems for effective Library operation.
• To ensure that all daily library routines run smoothly.
• To assist in managing student helpers and volunteers.
• To contribute to and help maintain guidance on library procedures.
Supporting the curriculum:
• To display and promote new stock to staff and pupils and promote awareness of library resources and facilities.
• To support individual students or groups of students as directed by the Librarian.
• To plan and deliver appropriately targeted library support programmes in accordance with specified learning targets for individual/ pairs /small groups of students.
• To help organise library resources to assist students in teaching and learning.
• To support the school with the use of assistive technologies.
Wellbeing of students:
• To ensure the efficient and accurate registration of students who are in the library, in line with the school s safeguarding policy
• To promote and safeguard the welfare of students.
• To comply with the school s safeguarding & child protection policy and ensure that any concerns relating to the safety or welfare of students are reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO)
• To facilitate peer interactions based on guidance of the Librarian.
Other:
• To complying with the Staff Code of Conduct, Ministry of Education Code of Conduct and school policies.
• To attend staff and whole school meetings, induction, professional training days/workshops, and other school events, as required
• To provide effective supervision of students out of class (e.g. morning, gate, break and lunch duties).
• To participate in school trips (local or international) and school events outside of the normal school day e.g. Jess Fest/Festive Fete
• To communicate in a timely and appropriate manner with parents, as and when necessary.
• To participate in any arrangements that may be made for appraisal.
• To undertake other specific duties which may, from time to time, be reasonably requested by the Librarian or SLT.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor s degree
• At least 2 years Librarian experience (preferably within a school environment)
• Experience using Library Management Systems, Microsoft 365 applications and iSAMS
Candidates should be under their Spouse visa or Golden visa and have their own medical insurance.
