Role Summary

The Prep School Assistant Head - Teaching and Learning will lead, manage, and enhance the quality of teaching and learning across Foundation Stage and Primary. Working as part of the Primary Leadership Team, the role focuses on improving classroom practice through coaching, professional development, quality assurance, and data‑informed strategies to ensure consistently high standards of learning and achievement for all pupils.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and embed whole‑school teaching principles to enhance learning outcomes.
• Support quality assurance processes including lesson observations, learning walks, and work scrutiny.
• Coordinate coaching and workshop cycles to develop teacher practice.
• Model consistently high‑quality teaching and demonstrate excellent practice to colleagues.
• Provide targeted mentoring and coaching to individual teachers requiring additional support.
• Design and deliver professional training sessions to improve teaching practice.
• Use data effectively to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to raise teaching quality.
• Act as a key member of the whole‑school teaching and learning leadership team.
• Collaborate with subject leads to define and embed high‑quality teaching within each subject.
• Evaluate curriculum planning and support collaborative planning across year groups.
• Oversee and develop the school CPD framework.
• Lead and support performance management and review cycles.
• Coordinate ECT provision and student teacher support.
• Lead research into best practice with a strong emphasis on cognitive science.
• Share research‑informed strategies and support staff in applying them in practice.
• Build professional networks to ensure the Academy remains at the forefront of teaching and learning.
• Lead development of learning skills and positive behaviours for learning.
• Support effective implementation of behaviour and rewards systems.
• Promote teaching and learning priorities with parents and the wider community.
• Lead parental workshops to support learning strategies and home‑school partnerships.

Ideal Profile

• Recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant field; Master’s degree or National Professional Qualification in Education preferred.
• Outstanding classroom practitioner with proven leadership impact.
• Strong understanding of British curriculum frameworks, KHDA and BSO inspection standards, and GEMS expectations.
• Ability to lead, inspire, motivate and support staff and pupils.
• Excellent organisational, IT, data management, numeracy, and literacy skills.
• Calm, methodical approach with the ability to perform under pressure.
