Job description

osition: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Emergency Department

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Care and Treatment:
  • Measure and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiratory rate.
  • Provide basic wound care, including cleaning, dressing, and monitoring for signs of infection.
  • Assist in performing diagnostic tests, including POCT ECG and phlebotomy.
  • Perform POCT quality control checks.
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and report observations to the healthcare team promptly.
Patient Support and Education:
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families during their stay in the emergency department.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with registered nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
  • Accurately document all aspects of patient care.
  • Assist the registered nurse in preparing patients for discharge.
Emergency Response:
  • Assist in emergency procedures, such as Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Help prepare and maintain equipment and supplies for emergency procedures.
Infection Control and Safety:
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and safety guidelines to prevent the spread of infection.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
Supplies and Consumables:
  • Ensure that clinical areas are stocked with supplies and consumables.
Continuous Learning and Professional Development:
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices and advancements in emergency care.
  • Attend department meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives as required.
Patient Escorting:
  • Escort home discharge patients by ambulance.
  • Escort admitted patients along with the Registered Nurse.
  • Escort stable patients to specialty clinics and the Radiology department.
Equipment Management:
  • Perform daily and monthly checks, including E-carts, Broselow carts, and the ambulance medication box.
  • Store, manage, and dispense CSSD items.
