Experience in power system studies for substations and grid integration of renewable power plants. Preferred knowledge of renewable generation (Solar PV inverters, wind energy systems), HVDC, and FACTS devices (STATCOM, SVC, SCG).
Hands-on experience with software such as PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, and DigSILENT is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct grid integration studies including transient and steady-state stability, voltage stability, harmonic, power quality, LVRT, and Fault Ride Through analyses.
- Perform short circuit analysis and determine switchgear and circuit breaker sizing according to standards.
- Carry out insulation coordination studies involving cable, transformer energization, reactor energization, TRV, lightning strike, and transient overvoltage studies using PSCD or similar tools.
- Perform arc flash analysis adhering to international standards.
- Conduct contingency analysis for grid component design.
- Perform ferro-resonance studies related to transformers and EHV cables.
- Analyze secondary arc current extinction for auto-reclosure studies.
- Select surge arresters based on residual voltage and energy levels.
Renewables:
- Load flow studies for assessing network overloading with RES capacity additions.
- Identify reactive power requirements for various RES scenarios.
- Model renewable sources such as Solar, BESS, and Wind.
- Assess operational challenges of different RES technologies.
- Verify grid code compliance before energization under various operational scenarios.
Industrial:
- Perform motor acceleration and re-acceleration studies for process requirements.
General:
- Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, DEP, and other standards.
- Analyze technological solutions for system studies.
- Estimate input parameters for studies when data is unavailable.
- Interpret country-specific grid codes, especially Middle East standards.
- Identify issues during grid integration and propose solutions.
Preferred Skills:
- Design of power generation mixes for microgrids and battery storage using HOMER or similar software.
- Protection relay selection and coordination studies.
- Modeling of Phase Shifting Transformers.
- Experience with customer and utility interactions for grid impact approvals.
- HVDC, STATCOM projects, including electromagnetic compatibility studies.
