Job description

The Future Generation of Resilient and Infrastructure Design Technology Hub (FutureGRID TecH) at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit one or more motivated postdoctoral associates (or research scientists for candidates with 5+ years of post-PhD experience). Candidates will work under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Moustafa to conduct research in future structures and resilient infrastructure systems, focusing on applications of emerging technologies. Key areas of interest include:

  • Advanced construction and reinforcement materials (UHPC, ECC, SMA)
  • UHPC mix development, material characterization, modeling, and structural design
  • Structural 3D printing (metals, concrete, composites)
  • Computational mechanics and structural topology optimization
  • Vision-based structural health monitoring
  • Autonomous and drone-based infrastructure inspection and vibration monitoring

Applicants must hold a PhD in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Material Engineering. Related fields such as Computer Science, Nuclear Engineering, and Material Science are also considered. Qualifications include strong communication skills, a publication record in peer-reviewed journals, and experience mentoring students. Additional qualifications that are a plus include:

  • Training or certification in additive manufacturing, machine learning, AI, computer vision, robotics, UAVs, CFD
  • Programming expertise (Python, C, GUI development)
  • Experience in computational mechanics, finite element modeling
  • Laboratory and multiscale experimental testing at material and structural levels
